2nd Four Star 120 Build
Well, like it says this is my second four star 120. My first one crashed way to early. So here is a picture of the stab, skins and power house YS 120 to run it.

RE: 2nd Four Star 120 Build
Tailskid, Go ahead and get started and we can have a dual build.
Jship, I loved the other one. It started out with a G38, but that was way to heavy. I built it to handle the shake, rattle and role of the gas engine. This one will have the YS on it so I am going to try and build it a little lighter.
I want to add counter balances to the elevators and rudder. So can I just add them on to the supplied parts or should I just start from scratch. I was think that if I add it to the supplied parts I could pin them like you would a firewall. Let me know what you think. I will try and mock it up tonight and post a picture.

Well, I have been a little busy, but found time to build. I have both stabs built with counter balances. Next I have to sand the verticle stab and make a counter balance for it. Here are a few pictures for you to check out.

RE: 2nd Four Star 120 Build
Well, its been a while since I posted anything with progress. I had to go to the hobby store, and they are closed from Sun. to Wed. so I went to one out of town today. I could not wait any longer. But the Fuse is now finished to what the directions call for. I am not sure if I will sheet the turtle deck. I sheeted the last one, but it didnt turn out to round. (should have sanded more i guess). So anyway here are a few recent pix. I will start the wing next.

Hey Tailskid,
I think she is from Oklahoma. She's a sooner. You know sooner be one kind as another. But the Vet says she has Datsun legs, Chiuau(SP) face and ears. Her mother was part Lab so I quess her body is Lab. Out kids name out pets after spices. Her name is Pepper. She is 4 months old.

Ok, here is a little update for those who are interested. The fuse is covered and the tail feathers. Also I wanted to use the Extra canopy, but my pilot would not fit under the canopy. Her are a few pictures.

I hope You get along better than I did My first try with the tall rudder. In knife edge I was getting a lot of adverse coupling in prolong knife edge. I have went to 3/4" wider rudder and coupling went away.
Looks great.

RE: 2nd Four Star 120 Build
Well I thought I would finish this build up with a flight report. I decided to put a DLE 30 on my four star. So everything is all finished and I got out to the field today. The engine started up after a few flips with the choke. After a little tweaking on the needles I decided to taxi down the runway. after about four feet the taxi trip was over and the four star was flying. I pulled the throttle back and put her back down. After regaining my composure, I went for it for real. Take off role is very short with the 30 cc gas engine. I think I put a few clicks of aileron and rudder in her, and she flew great.

Thanks for the flight report!
You must have an awesome power to weight ratio with that combo. Just curious, but what is the AUW with the DLE 30?
I just saw some feedback on the DLE 20, where a fellow was measuring over 15lb static thrust, I would think that it would be plenty for the 4 Star??????
My good old 4 Star 60 is getting very tired after 5 seasons of active flying. Time to trade up to the 120[8D]
I'm only in my second season flying small gassers, currently a 26cc and 20cc RCGF. If I go with a 20cc gas engine, the only thing I'll miss is the 4 stroke sound, not the mess and certainly not the cost of 15% nitro[:'(]
Pepper looks like a lovely dog, best of luck. My wife and I are "owned" by a Belgian Shepherd/retriever mix, rescued from a kill shelter.
Building season is almost here!

Pete, This is my first new gas engine. I had a g38 on another four star. It had plenty of power, but was very aggrevating to run. Since my dle is not broke in yet I did not run it to hard. It did have plenty of power. It probably could take off faster if I pushed it. As far as weight I have no Idea. I will try and weight it some time and get back with you. I know what you mean about the dog. She thinks she owns us. I dont know if that is due to our daughters or us.
Thanks
Alan
