The Sig J-3 I just got, the instructions detail using a gas engine. I want to do mine with an electric motor. Since there will be no fuel tank, will the batteries go in that spot or in the cabin floor? And if in the cabin, what goes in the area the tank would have gone? I'm reading the plans now, am I going to get to this explanation anyway?
Thanks,
Chris

Try to position the batteries as close to the center of gravity indicated on the plans as possible. Once all up & assembled you may have to move them forward slightly to balance the model, so plan ahead but finalize the placement only after a trial balancing.

Since the cub has such a short nose, I'd be willing to bet (a donut) that even with the batteries shifted as far forward as you can get them, it'll still turn out tail heavy.
But.. Like Charlie P. said....
Get it built first, and be willing to shift batteries as needed for balancing.
Oh.. what may help... try mounting the ESC under the cowl below the motor. You should be able to cut some of the lower cowling away for cooling. Like under the "chin" of the cowl. This could give you more flexibility when it comes to moving the batteries.

Okay, thanks fella's, good into to think about. Probably not going to start until September due to the summer heat and humidity, real pain this time of year. I'll probably just finish gathering supplies and cleaning off the work bench in the mean-time.
