RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
Rye,
You're gonna have to run that one by me again. Not sure if I understand. Are you talking about attaching bracing(webs)to the backs of the top and bottom front spars? Looks like it's called forin the center section of the wing, but I see no reference to it in the left and right wing panels. It would probably not hurt toadd 1/8" webbing. R-duhb |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
yes the front top and bottom spars 3/32 sheeting is what i done before on trainers because they take a beating i think when and if i do it i am going to have to brace up the wing agian so it dont warp thanks rye

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
It's a good idea. I'll probably do the same. Make sure the grain is perpendicular to the spars.

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
ok ill do that, just found out my kit is missing 2 -3/32 sheeting and a 3/8 spar so far i havent look at it all, good thing i have a stock of balsa from other builds :D going to finish the right wing and start the left tonight was out all day looking at houses now that i dont have to live in the city of chicago because i work for them for 33 years the wolf [>:] wants to move back to the sub where i meet her found a house thats right across from two big ponds in mt prospect so i can run my rc boats a 5' pt and 4' cabin crusiers and others and i am still in range of the airfeild

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
I was missing the 3/32 sheeting also. I went out and bought a couple of pieces, but I'm still having them send me more :) I hope to have both wing panels done this weekend. The rest of the family has plans so it should be nice and quiet.
Make sure the new house has a separate room for plane building! :) |

hi guys
ok center done, starting on the left wing ,why is the servo so much lower then the right wing ? i am going with the optional aileron installation should i make it the same as the right wing? thanks rye |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
<span style="font-size: small">Rye, Looks like you're moving right along. I finished the left panel and I'm more than half way through the right. I'm also going with the optional wing servo install. Fortunately I had a couple of hatch covers leftover from a 4 star 60 crash. Theyfit perfectly! I hadn't noticed the difference in servo location between left and right wing panels, but I personallywould locate them in the same location in each wing panel. I'll probably email B-USA and ask them why it's different. Because I'm going with the optional servo install I had to lengthen the aileron horn pad. I also used epoxy instead of CA. AND reinforced it with a small piece of balsa on the opposite side of the rib where the pad overhangs. Better safe than sorry. r-duhb</span></p> |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
hey cool please let me know what balsa usa said about the servo mount on the servo mount i am going to wait, thanks rye

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
I use the 42% (I think, or 40%) company's remote kill switch. It's the one for $32 and I got it from ValleyViewRc.com and they also pre drilled the holes in the prop. for me. Not sure about 20cc and if it needs extra holes in the prop. to hold it to the shaft.
I also got my first gasser plane recently, Airworks 55cc Yak 54 and I love it. You going to love the gas engine. I got rid of all my nitro engines and converted planes to electric. So I have electrics and gas planes. I flew nitro for 20 years, don't see a reason for it when we have higher performing electric motors. My .46 rimfire electric motor has 30% more power than my OS .55 two stroke. Anyways, during the gas engine break-in your plane will shake a lot and it could cause lose wires to be cut by vibrating fuse parts. I isolated all my wires from touching aircraft parts after noticing some were cut to the wire. My only regret is that I wish we had today's gas technology years back so I would start on gas planes sooner. Gas engine + scale plane = win :) Nitro four-strokes are second best. Actually, I just saw an ad for a gas four stroke motor in AMA magazine. That would be interesting. It was a single cylinder engine. The other day, I saw a friend fly tri-cylinder nitro four-stroke engine powered biplane. Pretty cool sounding engine. So the only nitro engine I would do again would be a four stroke, otherwise it's gas or electric. I think gas comes out cheaper because lipos need lots of cycles to break even. Good luck on your build, you will love gas plane flying. |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
<span style="font-size: small">I found the link for the kill switch. Is it a pretty straight forward install?
</span><span style="font-size: small">http://www.valleyviewrc.com/Opto%20gas%20kill%20switch.htm</span><span style="font-size: small"> I don't think the DLE-20 requires extra holes in the prop, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. :) Thanks for the tip on isolating the wires. I will definitely do that.</span> |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
<span style="font-size: small">Rye,
Below is the response from Balsa USA regarding the aileron mounting location. <span style="color: #0000ff"><font face="Tms Rmn"><font face="Arial">"</font>Yes they should be THE SAME on both sides of the wing!! The plans were drawn like that to illustrate two different ways of installing the aileron servos! Pick the method you like best and duplicate it on BOTH sides of the wing!!!"</font></span></span> |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
hey thanks are you going high or low?
|
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
I'll end up on the low end, but definitely not as low as what they show on the plans.I'll make it the last thing I do on the wing.

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
hi
well i finished the other wing and am jumping to the tail feathers now atfer reading that i see they are using a dowel rod to joint ihe elevtor toghter with one control rod ,do you think this is strong enought with the gas engine dle-20 and if i understand it is it build so the elevtor is like the aleirons? and the rudder to or do we bevel the leading egde of the elevtor and rudder the insturtions are hard to under stand some times thanks rye |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
hey, you've gotten ahead of me. I'm still working on the wing. Got a nasty cold so I'm feelin like crap. Hopefully I can get started again by Saturday. But anyway, I will probably put control horns on both elevator halves and use a Y-connector rod. Better safe than sorry and it should be pretty easy to setup. I'll read ahead a bit to see what's up.
|
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
hey r-duhb
hope you feel better soon, as for the elevator i think ill get rid of the doll rod, spilt the eleavtor and put in some lite ply for the horn concettions i plan on doing a pull pull rudder ,have to stop for a few days my son and i need to build a wind turbine and a power station and a home, and power pole to show how it makes power from wind going to use my stock pile of balsa to build and a servo with the stop cut out for the towers blades and a lot of l e d lite going to run the hole thing of a 12 volt gel cell |

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
Hey guys,
Just ordered my Citabria this weekend. Once I heard about the new DLE-20, I just had to find an airplane to put it on. Looks like great minds think alike. I'll be following closely and will let you know when I start my build. |

RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
hi r-duhb
are you going to predrill for your motor mount before you glue in the fire wall and what mount are you going to use ,are you going inverted and are you going with a pitt style muffler ,wow a lot to think before i move on ,thanks rye |
RE: Balsa USA Citabria Pro Build Countdown
<span style="font-size: small">Rye,
I plan to pre-drill and will most likely use a Dubro mount. They're kind of pricey, but nothing but the best right?!? http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif The 1.20 size should work perfectly. At this point, I plan to invert, but we'll see as I go. What type of servos will you use? r-duhb</span> |
