BTW.......if you look at the completed listings for a Ryan STA kit on E-bay, they go from $111 to $242 (all + shipping). So you can make your own conclusions, but its all about timing. I hope anyone looking can score one for $50. More power to you!

It appears there are two Sig Ryan STA kits on eBay right now. They still have 3 days to go, but are both currently under $100.

First kit
Second kit

Are these different versions?

Ah come on Tim! I had my eye on those and now there out there! We're all going to be bidding against eachother! Sheesh! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

Dave I agree with your statement on what one is willing to pay for kits. It's what it's worth to you. I spent $225.00 for my Ryan including shipping and it has given back to me more than that in hours of building pleasure... I would like to think that if I were to sell my Ryan now I could get a lot more than what I paid for the kit...

Tim, those kits that you found are the same as mine there isn't any difference. The first kit has been started while the second kit is still a "virgin". Second kit is a sweet deal....

On another note, my tapes arrived last night and I spent a few hours completing the wing. With the exception of two servo covers, ailerons and flaps the winghas beencompleted. I will fit the landing gear to the wing this evening. Hopefully my Ryan will be able to stand on her own tonight!

I like to build IKON kits, mostly the ones that I missed when they were in production. I discovered that patience is a virtue, but money is too. LOL

You have to wait for a desired kit to come along, but then you have to have a cash reserve to purchase it.

I've been lucky. I have found the two that I wanted most, the Cessna Airmaster, and the Lockheed Vega. They took a couple years a piece, to find, though.

As you stated, Vincent, you get back more than you pay. The amount of satisfaction received is well above the price of building a kit.

I'm glad that you got your tapes. I hate it when I run out during a build. They're worth waiting for, though. They add a lot to the scale realism of a model.

Not to sound sarcastic but I find after about four hours with a band saw I have a kit. Of course that is minus the hardware, which I usually did not use. And minus the cowl, pants. etc. but easily purchaseable usually.

The only issue there Ace is that you can't always find plans that have good info on formers or ribs. I am not opposed to the issue cutting a "kit" either, but when you build as slow as I do, cutting a kit may put me into my golden years before I can build it.

Your logic is sound Robert, but to many that dosen't have the experience that you have in terms of order of sequence , ect. the build manual provides the sequence of events in buildingand trains or preparesthe builder so they can at some point become a scratch builder like yourself.

There is a thread on FG on why more people do not build.  My issue is, with the type of flying I do, there are no kits.  I do not know of any 50-100cc Extra, Slick, Edge, Velox, etc, kits.  Vinnie sees what I bring to the field, and while glow powered Telemasters are fun for some, they are just not my cup of tea.

Guy's I was not downing anyone for buying kit's. There was a time that a kit gave me fits.I was just saying what I like to do. Like VJ said I have been doing this long enough I don't need a manual or even very good plans to build what I want. This hobby would probably all but disappear if it were not for the large variety of participants. We need each other to keep the manutacturers up and running.
I'm sure there will come a day when I am not capable of building, then I will go back to ARF's or Parkflyers or the such.

Okay, I've got to chime in here.  I've been building my Cub for over two years now, bought the kit for about $210, and it's still giving me building pleasure!  The slower you build, the more value it gives.  Love it! ;)

Here are some preliminary photos of the wheel assemblies introduced to the wing for the very first time. I was hopeful that they would fit as planned and I am happy to report that they do indeed. The wheel pants still need some work to be completed but this will get done today. It is exciting to finally see all the separate assemblies come together and combine to make the final product one. I have to be honest a tear came to my eye as I fitted the wheels to the wing. I have worked long and hard to make this model come to life...Well I don't understand why these photos won't load, the message says: file too large????

Try loading one at a time. Then post it. Then edit the post by adding another pic, etc.
