source for ailerons
does anyone know of a source for precut and tapered ailerons; 1-1/8" cord is perfect? I just got my hands on a 95% complete GP Patriot that is missing the ailerons.

One I've found is Specialized Balsa.

If you've got a good local hobby store, they may have what you need. A good hobby store has a cabinet full of assorted shapes and sizes of balsa, hardwood, and light ply for model building.

Sig doesn't show anything 1 and1/8 on the websight.
http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...ntF.html?E+Sig If nothing in the link looks right I would call them. A Sig airplane I had sitting around for a long time had warped ailerons. I called them, and they fixed me right up. They have a lot more stuff than they show on their websight. |
Balsa USA has a decent variety. They have 1 1/4, easy enough to trim. http://shop.balsausa.com/product_p/225.htm

Most local hobby shops carry tapered aileron stock, If you can't find the perfect thickness, buy large, and sand to shape.

Ailerons are pretty easy to make. You can tilt a bandsaw table a bit and rough cut out the stock then finish shaping the LE with sandpaper or you can shape then with a handplane if you have one. I've also made them with nothing more than a long sanding "T" bar. You'll have them done in much less time than it will take to find someone who carries that size.
