RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hi Ron,
I have also placed an order on Apache for another Chipmunk - this time around the Pepsi Chipmunk. These are excellent kits and in this one, I will fit a G38 that I have lying around. I also ordered their 2 piece wing kit and a special muffler they sell that fits the G38 with scale looking stacks. Hopefully, shipping won't take long. Let me know your impressions with the DH Chipmunk when you get it please. Regards Ari |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk

RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hello Ari,
mine arrived about two weeks ago. Everything written up about the kit so far would appear to be true. Excellent manual, plans and building instructions, Beautifully cnc cut wood, quality glass fibre cowl etc. Have you had a look at the *************.co.uk site under scale modelling for more info regards tail wheel control and fitting other engines? (page 2) I have not started mine yet as i have just returned from a short holiday prior to entering hospital for re-routing of internal plumbing. Will get back to you later in the year regards building. Regards Ron |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hi Ron,
Good to hear you have received your kit and it met the expectations you had. No, I wasn't aware of this website, will check it out. I also received my second Chipmunk from Apache yesterday. It's the Pepsi Chipmunk and the same applies, excellent quality of wood, cowling and accessories. Regards Ari |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
their are two different types of monks, one is the dynaflight, which
looks totally different than the aerotech monk. THE AERO TECH IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AIRPLANES I'VE EVER SEEN. but is out of my league as far as money. mabey some day i tried the apache link , cant get it chipmonks are baaaaaaaaaad |

RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Over the last few days, I have been going through the Pepsi Chipmunk kit and reading the instructions and plans.
Initial impression of the kit is very good. The fibreglass cowl and spats are amongst the best I have seen and all wood is straight of good quality. Since opening the box and going through the contents, I couldn't resist temptation of starting the build. Therefore, I have pretty much set aside other projects. I will be posting a build thread for the kit if anyone is interested. Regards Ari |

Ron,
Below are a couple of photos of my N13Y Super Chipmunk. The N13Y is the retract version. Pneumatic retracts that lock in the down position upon loss of air pressure. The struts are functioning oleo struts. Moki 1.8 engine and Hitec 625 / 645MG servos throughout. Ari |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hi could u please tell me how u set your motor in the chipmuck and what muffer you used .
Thank you very much. Graham Firth. |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hi Graham,
It's a Moki 1.8 and a BCM inverted muffler. If you mean offsets, it's already built into the frame to give the proper right and down thrust. Regards Ari |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Ck out www.aerotech-rcmodels.com
They have a really nice Chipmunk kit also. Great company to deal with. |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
The Aero-Tech Chipmunk is almost 10" bigger than this one. 90" wingspan?
|
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
I have always said Bigger is better... :) But then I don't fly anything that small...

RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hi there,
Sorry about the delay in reply, I had no idea this thread was still active! Actually if you want a blow by blow report on the building of one of these kits (they are all basically similar) you won't do better than following Ari Apalsson 'Pepsi build'. Yes, I would go with the flaps option as you will always wonder how effective they are. I have no experience with the Airsail kit.....what wingspan? Saito 90 would not do for the Apache version! Regards Ron |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hello Ari,
My apologies....I had no idea this thread was still active! Thanks for the photos of the Super Chipmunk. The plane looks terrific. Can't resist asking if you are going to use the triangular balsa strip to hide the hinge line on the Pepsi version. From your photos of the Penzoill version it looks like you decided on the simpler route. Wish I had...it's taken me as long to sand and carve the ailerons, elevators and rudder as building the wings etc. The result is a hidden hinge line but the balsa edge is very thin and fragile (toughen up with thin cyano?) Don't know how the covering film will adhere. Am following your build on the Pepsi thread with interest Regards Ron |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Hi Ron,
This thread seems to take off every now and then. There must be a fair bit of interest in the Chipmunk. Maybe there are too many Extras and Katanas out there and the Chipmunk is something different.. Regarding the hingeline - I didn't use the triangular strip on the Pennzoil but was thinking about attempting it on the Pepsi. I am still to decide on this though. Neither kit is exact scale anyhow and if the ailerons are carefully sanded to match the wing trailing edge and one is careful with the gap, the hinge line isn't all that obvious. I am using the Robart hine points on the Pepsi whereas I used conventional hinges on the Pennzoil. I would love to see some photos of your plane if possible. Best regards Ari |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
Ari,
Yes, as you say they are not true scale so why bother...however it looks so different with the hidden hinge line but what a laborious task. The feather edge worries me as it won't take the slightest ding. As regards photos, sorry but I must be the only person left in the UK without a digital camera! Maybe this xmas. Cheers Ron |
cg super chipmunk instructions
i have a cg super chipmunk and the instructions is really bad.
Where i can find a better instructions. They have a pdf instructions but i got to pay for this. my mail is [email protected] THANKS dRjAY ORIGINAL: Skypilot_one I don't have one but there is a gentleman here on RCU that has a Ohio R/C Chipmunk with the Moki, he said he really likes it. If you do a search you should be able to find the thread. I think you will get better smoke from a four stroke and you can use a shaker smoke pump to eliminate the weight of an electric motor and battery pack. You won't have the vertical but the plane will fly better overall. A lighter plane will not speed up as much in a vertical dive as a heavy one with the same diameter prop at the same idle rpm. |
RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
does anyone know where I can obtain replacement graphics for my ohio R/C super chipmunk (Art Scholl) thanks! JW

RE: 1/5 Super Chipmunk
