Tiger II mods and Engine choice
What are the mods for the Goldberg Tiger II-thought I saw one that had the front modified for a cowling and engine mounted to side. Wondered what other changes are required to the kit-any weaknesses? Flipstart

The only weakness of this kit is that not enough fliers own one. Any good BB .46 engine will be plenty for it.
I don't know about a cowl, but this is one plane where I really liked having "Cheeks". I did the same pattern on both the Tiger II that I built for my son (Orange/white) and the Tiger 60 that I built for my wife (Neon Pink/Pearl). I cut the dark color to look like tiger cheeks aroung the engine, and it looked pretty cool! |
RE: Tiger II mods and Engine choice
Hey flipstart, here are mods I did on a TigerII kit last year. Flies like a dream.
Mounted the engine sideways (OS FS70). Cut off the front fuselage "cheeks" and installed a balsa engine cowl similar to the Ultra Sport 40. Glued the fuel tank hatch to the fuselage for front-end strength. Reinforced stabilizer and fin trailing edges with hardwood strips. Made symmetric, open wing tips. (sheet wingtips braced top and bottom). Added ½ inch to the rear of the rudder. Made it a tail dragger: Moved main landing gear blocks in front of the wing spar and angled them forward, placing the axles under the wing's leading edge. Fabricated & installed a tail-wheel setup similar to the one used on my Ultra Sport 40. Countered the extra 4-stroke engine weight by placing the battery behind former "C". Knocked 1/2" off the recommended dihedral. Replaced the aileron torque rods in the kit with 1/8-inch torque rods from the local hobby shop - inserted them deeper into the ailerons and epoxied them into the ailerons. --Mike-- |

Finished mine about two months ago. I added 1/2 inch to rudder and took 3/8 inch out of dihedral. Changed to tail dragger with tail wheel. Plane takes off easy for my first tail dragger on paved runway. Have a tt pro 46 in it and it flys good with this setup. started with low rates but did not take too long to change to high rates. Also I did not install the bevaled wing tips, just sheeted the tips.
