RE: Is SIG considered to be the best kits for a beginner builder?
Jumping right into warbirds all depends on your flying experiance as they need more attention to detail to fly. As far as being a kit, I can tell you the Top Flite Warbirds all build well, all be it labor intensive as there are alot of parts and blocks to shape. I have not built a Skyshark kit so I cannot comment on them. I believe the Top Flite P-47 to be the best flyer of the Gold Edition kits and it has been praised many times here on RCU. As for what retracts to use, that depends on which plane you select. I prefer Spring Air retracts with the 3/16 inch struts on them. They are spring loaded down so you never have to worry about the gear coming down if you loose air pressure, as they need air pressure to hold them up. There are also many building threads going here in the forums on the Top Flite kit's, so do a search and it might help you make a desicion. Good Luck, Dave

I ordered a 4*60 +11M of Oracover today.
When it's ready I plan to buy an O.S 91-fs for it :) |

Smart move.
You should really get some practice building before tackling a warbird, and a 4* 60 will be ideal practice. Now, as far as metric conversion goes, it's simple, just remember that 1 kilometer equals 27 bushels, and a liter equals 32 acres. A millimeter equals 15 pounds, and a gram is the same as zero degrees incidence. This of course fluctuates with temperature... Add 5 furlongs if the temperature is over 95 degrees Fahrenheit (5300c) If all else fails, move to the US. The only people here who can easily convert ounces to grams are the drug dealers. :D But seriously, here's an easy way to convert any and all dimensions: http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/conversions.html |

LOL!
Wasn't there some hick-up with ISS spacestation between European and American scientists calculating stuff their own way? Seriously, wouldn't you Americans agree that "our" metric system is easier? By the way, I got a 5/16-24?? Spinner nut, LOL :) |

I'm with you, it's beyond my comprehension why the US has never switched. When I am doing my own measuring, I often use metric. It's so much easier to do calculations. Of course I was awful at fractions in school too so that may explain my preference for the metric system. :) Kent |

I recived my 4*60 today and it looks sweet!
The quality of the wood and cutting is top notch and after reading the manual I don't think it'll be too hard to build. With a little care this plane will be very strong and well-built I hope. I let you know in about...three months how it turned out :) |
RE: Is SIG considered to be the best kits for a beginner builder?
You won't be dissapointed with the 4*. I got a 4* 40 from my wife for christmas and have started building. I just finished building the 2nd wing half last night. It's a lot of fun to build and pretty easy to follow the instructions. It also goes together a lot faster than I thought. You read along and follow the directions, and before you know it, you're looking at a wing half. This is my 1st kit and I really haven't had any problems at all. Good luck with it.:D Just be sure to have patience and TAKE YOUR TIME!:D
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a wing to sand[sm=angry.gif] |
RE: Is SIG considered to be the best kits for a beginner builder?
Great Planes has some pretty easy kits to build. The trainers are easier being there is less complicated structure, which is true with all companies kits. After building several kits and scratch building a lot more, the most valueable item I found to be was another builder to bounce ideas off or get an opinion.
