I haven't messed with this for a month or so because I was finishing up my Seduction Freestyle. Here are some pics of my progress:

Great Planes Super Skybolt
Saito .91 4 stroke engine 14X6 Prop
S3001 Futaba Servos
1200 MAh NiMH battery (very light)
Pull Pull on elevator and Rudder (to save on weight)
21st Century fabric (missle red and cub yellow)

I should be finished covering in the next day or so (it's going real quick) and hopefully ready to fly by Labor Day....Heh, have to go show it off when there are a lot of people at the field. I must say, this has been the most involved kit I've ever built. I was soo worried about covering in between the cabanes, but had no problems, and looks quite good. Chuck, you'd be proud :)

That looks great!
Those two colors go very well together.
Good job, gives me an idea for my Pattern ship :)

It looks nice, but it also looks like you made a little boo boo. You should ALWAYS cover the fuse (and everything else for that matter) starting at the rear, and working your way to the front. That way, all of your overlaping seams are away from the airflow so they can't be lifted by the air blowing over them.

I definatly agree (and honestly didn't think about it), I was very worried about the complications with covering around the cabanes, I wanted to get that done as soon as possible. I'm putting two fairly large pinstripes down each side and one on top, so I am hoping that will help to keep the monocote down. Thanks for pointing that out tho!

Can you give me a close up shot of the tail feathers

I am really interested how you shaped the tail feathers on yours.

Thanks

Looks great though, I am excited to start mine this winter now.

Cheers

I dont understand what you mean by "shaped" The leading edge of both fin and stab are rounded, and the TE is square. Rudder and elevator are both rounded on the LE and TE. I just pinned the parts to the plans (with waxed paper over top) and just glued it, then sheeted with 1/32 balsa (or 1/16 I dont remember). Good luck on yours, you're in for a lot of sanding!! If you have any building questions, please look me up while everything is still fresh on my mind. Can't wait to fly it

Yea, I built mine 10 years ago, and I still remember it being the "buildingest" GP kit I have ever built. (Still flying like a dream though!)

Looks Like I am going to have some work!

Well, after getting used to the difference in flying characteristics I decided that I really like how biplanes fly. I started flying planes with a GP Cap 232. I decided on this as my trainer because I am an RC Heli Pilot and I thought, how hard could it be. I was correct in my decision. I still have my cap and it has never been crashed. I am a self taught pilot and I guess I just got lucky. Actually, I owe most of my sucess to Real Flight. After the Cap I decided that I wanted a biplane so I got the GP Ultimate. Was a joy to build and it flys great. I seems a little heavy but still has good flight characteristics. After seeing your pics of the skybolt I decided that I would do something that I said I would never do again, and that is build another biplane. I figure this kit will really test my building skills! So far I have the Cap, Ultimate, 90% of a GP Extra (.60 size), and my heli (Raptor 30). This will be a welcome airplane to my fleet, Hopefully! After the rave reviews that everyone seems to have about this plane I hope they are right.

Let the Building Continue!!!! Phil (Mesa, AZ)

By the way, the 90% of the extra is because it is almost done being covered and not a crash related deduction of 10%!

I have to say that that the Super Skybolt might not be as 3d capable as the Ultimate, but it sure beats the heck out of it in looks! I didn't work on the balancing issue this weekend. I've started working on a non rc related project :) I'm building a watercooled system for my computer so I can make it quieter and cooler :) Just for kicks, here are some pics of it:

The radiator is under those 120 mm fans!

Hi tmproff, minnflyer pointed out correctly but what you can do is to seal that seam with clear lusterkote. Spray some into the can top cover, use a fine brush and apply two-three thin coatings over the seam. Doesn't turn yellow and fuelproof seam. Good luck.......... :)

I did go and purchase a copy of clear and sprayed down all my pin striping, and also added a futaba sticker right where the seam is on the side of the plane. I dont' think the monocote is going to come up there.
