Very cool, glad to hear the maiden went well. I flew mine on the floats yesterday :D
You will have to try that out one day, what a blast. I am thinking about buying another SSE and building the fuse with all the mods.

I would love to figure out how to fly with floats. I live less than 5 minutes from a big lake (Lake Travis), however, I don't have any boat nor do I know if you're allowed to fly there. How do you deal with a possible deadstick landing far from the shore?

Well, I'm getting ready to head out to do some flying. We've had lots of thunderstorms the last couple of days, but hopefully there'll be a break today.

I have not had a deadstick landing in a long time. I am used to the reliability of a good Saito engine or an MVVS. However this SE now has an OS 50SX on it so that may be a challenge. This is my first float plane so all I have to add is I will only fly at an event with a boat LOL
We also have a large span of water at our field 400x 80 or so that a coffee and carrot stick will outlast the length of time for it to float to shore :D It is rather stimulating !

Great job on the covering, especially it being your first time! I'm learning (trying) also, how did you get those lines and designs cut symmetrical on both wings?

Thanks Pilot Brandon! It did come out pretty good being the first time. I bought a book that took you through step by step how to cover a model. I read that a couple of times before I planned my scheme. I'm sure that helped. I went really slow, one night I did the tail feathers, the next one wing etc. Took me about a weeks to do the whole thing working about 1-2 hours per night.

As far as the stripes, I bought them in the matching color and just applied them. That was really easy and came out nice. The only "design" I've got are the two blue patches on the wing (and stab). I used a circle as a template for the curved corner and cut both sides at the same time by overlaying two pieces of covering on top of each other.

I also bought a box of 100 razor blades and went through about 50 of them. I found that they get dull very quickly and it's not worth trying to save money on those.

There are also several helpful threads that I read here on RCU about covering. There's, I think, a short video done by MinnFlyer that was also very helpful. I used his approach of gluing two pieces of balsa on a pair of pliers to use for pulling the covering around corners etc.

I would highly recommend getting either a video or a book that goes through the steps. It helped me a lot.

Tychoc.... Did you use the TNT or Dubro landing gear? I scanned through the other posts and must've missed it if you mentioned it. I flew this one a few times yesterday and just about trashed the gear, it's a lot heavier than my single engine SE's (but after flying it its now my hands down favorite!) Anyhow, I've gotta do something about the gear.

I used the Dubro gear. I think it was around $14 at the LHS. Works great and gives me lots of ground clearance. I looked at the TNT gear, but found it to be too expensive given the rest of the kit. I did have a note about it in post#40.

So, tell us, how did it fly?? Don't leave us hanging:)

The best way to describe the twin was incredibly smooth. It was a little faster than my others that have a single .46FX, the twin has 2 .25FXs. I put everthing I knew into setting it up before flight. There was an issue with balance since both tanks are behind the CG (my design flaw) I had to figure out how much fuel to remove from the tanks before flying it so the CG range would work.

Once in the air it needed no trim. Rolls were a little slower on low rates. I haven't tried high rates on anything yet until I get a few more flights on it. I flew it right after warming up on one of my single engine SEs and I'd have to say it was much less affected by wind probably due to the extra weight. It did loops just as tight as the others.

As far as landing went, I seemed to need just a little more runway than the others but I really can't give much of a description here since I was so nervous and now it all seems like a blur. But it did come in well and both engines were running when I stopped. The second flight I came in a little hard which is what messed up the gear but again, both engines were running.

Hopefully next weekend I'll get some in-air pictures. If anyone wants to try this please let me know, I've got tons on build pics and would like to see how others would do it.
