Sig SE Maiden Today
I finished up my SE the other day and have been waiting for a nice day with no wind to go. Well today was the day. I have a OS 70 FS on it with a 12x4 APC prop on it. I could not have asked for a better day. It flew like a dream. Engine was flawless (only about 3 tanks through it). Only trim needed was a little up elevator. The vertical was awsome, although I would like a little more. What prop should I try. Do I go longer on prop like to a 13x? or do I up the pith to a 12x6. What would be the better for more torque? Anyway I will post pictures in the morning of my little SE.

RE: Sig SE Maiden Today
Congrats on the sucessful maiden. The SE is such a great flying plane, I love mine. The 12x6 would give you less verticle and more speed. Do you have the stock landing gear? If so, you'd have a hard time going to a 13 prop due to the ground clearance. You might try a 12x3 or 11x5. If you have the clearance though, I'd try a 13x5.

I have a larger Landing gear, the plane is really tall. With a sullivan tail whell also.
Here are some pics. |
RE: Sig SE Maiden Today
I found that 13x6 was an good size for the 70 Surpass. A 12x4 is a bit light.
You do NOT want the engine revving past 9500 on the ground, because it might exceed 10,000 once it unloads upstairs. Going past 10,000 is an almost sure way to float the valves and shorten the engine's life. An indicator of this is if the engine seems to "surge" in straight and level flight. Get an accurate tach. I think you'll find you need more prop. |

Yes, with the larger landing gear, I'd do with a 13x4 for more verticle and a 13x6 for more speed.
