4 Star 40 engine size?
I'm in the process of building a 4* 40. Not sure which size engine to go with. Should I go the max and use something like Thunder Tiger 46 Pro or is this to much motor for this plane. Another engine that came to mind was a Thunder Tiger GP 42. I really think a LA 40 wouldnt be enough, but I may be wrong. So I was just wondering what would be the best engine choice for the 4 star 40. Thanks, JT

I had the TT .46 PRO on mine and it was great, a perfect combination.

most of the better .40 to .50 BB engines work fine , have seen lot larger engines installed, but not needed.

This plane flies fine with a OS.40 la. Use the bigger motor if you want to but it is not needed. Extra power is always a good thing.
I have an OS .52 4stroke in mine and it has plenty of power. The 4* is a very light plane. |

Just finished a 4*40 and have a new TT Pro 46 to put in it. Not real experienced but think that should be a good engine for it too.

I'm putting a .52 4-stroke in mine. I haven't finished it yet, but I think it will be just fine.

The Os LA has bushings and is a rattle trap. For the small differenence in price the 46 pro is much better. I built this combo for my son and it was excellent. Flew great for 1 1/2 flights then the he had a freak midair. I keep telling myself I wanted to build another anyway.

I have a Saito .50 on mine, and it flies beautifully with it. Plenty of power, and still lands like a *****cat.

I've run an LA .40........TT.42GP.......and a Webra .40 on mine........can't see where any more power is needed.......
A friend has one with an old OS .40 4 stroke on it.....flies great.......but the vertical ain't great........ the LA .40 did fine.......as did the GP .42........both ran great for me......and they are both light engines........ Between the 2.......I would go with the GP .42......seems like a much better engine......and a little more power than the LA.......... |
