Well guys, I finally found the thread agian. page 12! Where is everyone.

I was at a swap meet today and I finally bought an engine. A G-26 new in the box for $210. After showing it to a few of my buddies, they notice it had been converted by RC Ignitions. I don't think the guy even knew what he had. Anyways, all the talk I hear about RC Ignitions just makes the deal sweeter.

I also picked up a nice pitts muffler for $25.

I was able to mount it with out cutting off the cowl cheeks.

pics. are coming

hey RCpilet, what size gass lines did you use for your ryobi? I'm building a 120 with the same engine and i need to order some from tower. Should i get the dubro tygon gas tubing in, 1/8", x larg, 3/32", or medium?

There are some great modifications in this thread! I especially like the idea of moving the cockpit back as it makes it a sleeker looking plane. How about a flight report on some of these modifications? Has anyone tried one built without dihedral in it?

Sweet looking plane! I see that you moved the canopy back, did you do any other mods besides that and the gas engine?

I rounded the wing tips the canopy was not moved back just fliped front to rear and trimed for a sporty look and a stronger Dubro landing gear. Go check it out................

Very nice plane sticktickler! Is that a Ryobi on the nose? How is the performance with the gas engine?

Not sure yet have not flown it it should be great it's only 11 pounds all up and yes it's a Ryobi. However I have flown the Ryobi in a Hog Bipe I enlarged 16% it came out about 13.50 pounds and flew like a home sick angel.

Nice bipe! Let us know how the 4 Star flies after you test it.

Yep, I have a kit ready to start as soon as I get some other projects out of the way. I've got an OS 1.60 that I'm considering trying on it. Otherwise a friend has offered the use of a Webra 1.20. I'm going to bash it and am getting ideas from this thread. I have to say that your plane is giving me a lot of inspiration! [8D]

Sorry to take so long. I haven't viewed this thread for sometime. I actually unsubscribed to it a couple months. [sm=red_smile.gif]

Just medium or standard fuel lines and regular size tubes in the tank. The Ryobi 31 runs for about 65 minutes at full throttle on 12oz of fuel. Thats right. Over an hour on 12oz of fuel. I hope that plane never gets away from the guy I sold it too. It'll fly to Oklahoma!! [sm=red_smile.gif]

I'm actually itching to build another one. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] I sold the last one, and I don't believe it's flown since I sold it. I'm pretty sure it just hangs in the barn and will soon be nothing more than a mouse nest. :( Haven't heard from the fella I sold it too--not in a couple months.

I'd build the next one with the Ryobi 31cc engine and CH ignition. Same as the last one. But, I wouldn't move my firewall back so far. I actually had balance problems when the plane was new. It was a touch tail heavy. I wouldn't have extended my wing panels either. The shear webs in the kit are precut to the proper width to fit in between the ribs if you build over the plans. I just slapped my ribs in a jig and spaced them out as long as the spar. It happened to be about 1.5" long on each side, so I had a stretched wing. It wasn't necessary. The plane has plenty of wing. And, it was a dumb mistake--a rookie mistake. I've built enough kits that it still bothers me to think I made such a rookie mistake in doing that. I ended up cutting a little 1" wide piece of 3/32 balsa to fill in every single shear web.

I would build my tail the exact same way again. It flew very well. Could actually have used just a bit more rudder, but I think much more would induce some weird yaw coupling problems. I did that too a 4*40 once and it made for some horrific adverse yaw problems.

I'd probably use a 10oz tank. Even that seams huge now that I know they will run forever on a few ounces of fuel.

I'd order custom landing gear for it. The stock gear is weak, and too short for prop clearence with the Ryobi. I was just about doing 3-point landings and take-offs with mine because the prop was so big.

I'd probably do a nicer covering scheme. I felt like the last one was a bit too simple or easy. How did you guys like it? I've never really challenged myself with a complicated covering scheme. Maybe the 4*120 isn't the plane for that. I dunno.

I wouldn't do a smoke system on the plane this time. The work I went through, to shoehorn all that stuff into that 4" wide fuselage, was nothing short of a hair-pulling nightmare. It sucked.

I'd put an instrument panel and a pilot in the plane this time. I have always wanted to hook a servo linkage to a "flight stick" and glue the pilots hands to it. That way his hands would move when you pulled back on the stick or gave it rudder inputs. Maybe one of those--not rudder AND elevator.

I'm glad to see this thread continue on --even a year after it started.

Shall I start the next one yet?[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Hi all. Just thought I would post some pictures of my 4 star 120. I am using a G23 for power with just a few mod's to the plane.

Has anyone thought about retracks for this bird? I built the wings with only 1" of dihedreal, and sheeted across the wing joint. The next one I build I will cut down the ribs for a faster wing design and add flaps, as this bird lends itself to as many mods as one can think up. Also I will add a cowel for a more finished look of a real plane, maybe a different canopy also, as the stock Sig one looks a bit dorkey and dated.

Hi there, RCPILET!!! I know that fella that bought your Sig Fourstar-120 and you are right...he has it hanging in his barn, with a Saito 1.50 4-stroke mounted on it and has renamed it the "MOUSE HOUSE". He taxied it around his property and does intend to fly it in a few weeks. He is kind of crazy and is always talking about this thread and how carefully the plane was modified and build by "rcpilet". I think this fella used to be a pretty competent rc pilot until he had some sort of CVA a few years ago. I will telll him hello from you!!!!

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

I'm not building anything right now. Struggling to finish an ARF right now.

I have a Midwest Citabria kit that I'm going to build next. I'm struggling with how to do it. The kit should fly very nicely if I just build it and slap a TH .75 on it.

My problem, is that I'm sick of glow engines. I have been sick of them for years, but for some reason, I still have 5 or 6 of them.

What I'd like to do is extend the wing cord and the fuselage length on the Midwest Citabria. I want to put a 25cc or 36cc gas engine on this Citabria and bash it into a Decathlon. If I do a 25cc engine, it'll be a Hybrid and run with a glow plug and gas/glow mixed fuel. If I enlarge the kit enough for the 36cc engine, it'll be gasoline fuel.

I plan to do a build thread on the Midwest Citabria. How did you guys like this thread? Would you like to see more pictures and details? Or was it done well enough? I can only work as fast as I can work. If you followed this thread, you know I can get bogged down and loose a few days of time here and there. Thats just how I am. I would like feedback on what you'd prefer to see in future build threads.

No Roger!! You can't buy the Midwest Citabria when it's finished. [sm=wink_smile.gif]

You did a nice job with your thread. I liked the detail about the 'glue box" on the wing that made sense to me

I for one would like more pictures and details of the Sig Four Star 120 kit. You said you sold the first and were going to build a second?
I just bought the kit today and beads of sweat are forming on my forehead.

I'm half wondering if I should farm out the hard bits to a more experienced builder? But this is supposed to be a quick build as it says on the box. ROTFL

Best place to build a kit is on a perfectly flat and LEVEL table. Thats the most crucial part of kit building.

The fuse literally snaps together. You just put rubberbands around it to hold it all together. Then make sure it's all squared up and start hitting it with thin CA. Once it's tached together with the thin CA--go back over it with medium CA. It really is that easy.

The wing is easy. Space the ribs out over the plan and snap the spars in place. Pin it all down. Make sure the spars are straight. Glue the spars to the ribs and then glue the leading edge and trailing edges on. Glue the stringers in the leading edge and sheet it. Flip it over and finish your dowel mount. Build your dihedral brace pocket. Sheet it.

The tail is easy. It's just sticks. Cut them long and sand the miters and angles with 80 grit untill you have nice, tight joints. Glue it all up with thin CA. Sheet it with medium or thick CA. Sand the stab and fin smooth. The rudder and elevators are easy if you follow the kit directions. They're pre-cut.

Covering is an art. You just have to do it in order to get better.

I'll build another. Just not ready to do it right now.
