Here's a quick little series of pics showing a slurry drop. The first pic is of a Full Scale actually doing what it was designed to do, dropping a load of water or slurry and putting out forest fires. I was at our clubs Giant Scale Fun Fly, and was up at the same time as a beautiful Cub. Well, unfortunately the Cub went in, and so the pilot asked me to do a Slurry Drop on his plane to put the 'Fire' out. Was a pretty neat crowd pleaser :D:):D I think the "Fire Boss" does a passable job at simulating the full scale.

Enjoy your planes and good flying to you all ;)

GPutt33,
Awsome drop shot!
Before I moved, my old club flew at a NJ forestry field (Coyle VOR) occasionaly they would do a public demo at the field with one of their Agcats, great on a hot summer day:)

With the toro you'll have to cut the cheeks off. I'd like to see some pics of the toro installed too! I think the toro would be easily for me being that I bought the plane used. Moving the firewall back 2 inches for the ryobi wouldn't be too bad just a little covering and some sheeting. I really like what Rcpilet did with his plane with filling in the cheek area on top!!

Hello grayle

Thank you for your responce , i have cut the cheeks off . You know if i have to move also the firewall back for the toro ?
I can mount the toro directly to the firewall without a base .
Sure i will post pics with the toro installed .

I want to thank all the people in that thread for the help with the pics ant the posts for building the 4*120 .

Chris: I don't think you need to move the firewall for the toro since it's only 5.5 inches from the mount to the back side of the prop. If the toro would have fit in between the cheeks, the back edge of the prop would be approx. 1/2" away from the cheeks, so it should be fine! Do you already have an engine? I'd
love to see pics, I want to see how it looks before I cut off the cheeks! Thanks, Grayle

Hello grayle,
Thanks for your advice, yes I have the engine but it can't fit unless you cut the cheeks, I have cut the cheeks and I am ready to prepare the firewall for mounting the engine.
I will put some photos soon.

Just maidened the plane on the fourth of July. Flies great and it balanced at 4.25 inches back! Couldn't believe that with the Brillelli 25cc engine on the front I still had to put the battery right behind the engine. I'm also using a 16 oz tank. I deadsticked with the tank dry and the plane glides beautifully. Very refreashing to fly after flying a CAP232!!

Hello Grayle,
very good construction, please tell me if you have put the servos in initial places.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

Actually, I purchased this plane at an auction and the servos were already installed. I didn't receive the instruction manual, so I don't know where the stock location of the servos are. My fuselage servos are all located behind the CG under the wing, along with the receiver.

Hello Grayle,
please tell me why you have put the engine upside down ?

Chris

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

Mounting a gas engine upside down is a very common practice. They run fine, because there is a positive spark from the magneto or ignition system to ignite the fuel.

You wouldn't want to mount the engine right side up because the cylinder would be sticking up really high above the top of the fuselage. It would work, but it just wouldn't look very good. You could mount the engine sideways, but then the lateral balance would be off drastically on one side and you'd have to probably have to add a lot of lead to the opposite wing.

Go back to the earlier pages in this thread and look at my Ryobi 31cc engine. It's inverted too and it runs fine. Gas engines run fine no matter how you mount them.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

Chris: Sorry, I haven't been here in a while, its just like Rcpilet said. I didn't want the engine to stick way above the fuselage. It runs fine upside down!! How's it going with you?

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

Well, I finnally started mine. In two days of work, I have the fuse built up and the wings. But I ran out of glue[&o] so off to the hobby shop.

I am planning on using the Evo 26GT. Unfortionatly Horizon is out of stock at the moment. I'm hoping that it will fit the stock firewall location. I'm also going to try a pitts muffler on it.

The only mod I'm planning on at the moment is to make the rudder a little bigger.

I have hit the week spots as well. Like the gear mounts and THE GEAR MOUNTS.

NO pics yet, maybe later.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

Thunderbolt, I'm building mine with the evo 26 also. If you get the radial mount for it you will need to put 1/2" standoffs to clear the nose. I looked at the pitts mufflers and after measuring them I determined they will not fit inside the cheeks. I ended up doing a standard muffler which allowed me to keep the cheeks. I just finished the build and covering it right now. I'll insert some pictures in this thread when I'm done. Good luck, Jerry.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

thanks Jerry, Which muffler did you use?

jbarnes 11-21-2006 01:38 PM

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

I used a standard side mount muffler, looks like a overgrown glow engine muffler. My LHS sells them for $44. Thats about 50% of the cost of a pitts muffler.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

OK thanks,

BTW, do you know the brand mane of the muffler?
I'm still waiting on my engine from Horizon. There due in mid Dec.

I gleamed alot out of this thread so here is my 4*120. I made the following modifcations after suggestions from several of the thread members.
- increased rudder and elevator
- larger landing gear (3/16")
- larger tail wheel
- dual elevator servos
- rudder servo in the rear
- additional 1/4" plate for landing gear support

Powered by a Evolution 26cc gas which fits between the cheeks with room to spare.
