I think You are realy going to love this build. After building the 60 size, i thought it coudt get any better (easer). The 60 was all laze cut. After geting into the 120 size i reralized that You could have to much of a good thing. Haveing all that laze cutting done makes it allmost like puting a puzzel together. I didnt sign on for puzzle building.

After i started building the 120, I relized how much I had missed puting a die cut kit toghter.
What I am haveing trouble saying is "The FUN level went off the charts with the 120. I look back and now I can see that the 60 was a borring build! no wonder it took so long to finished!

Explaine this; the all lazer cut 60 took over two years to finish. The 120 took from 011-27-2008 till 03-15-2009. Just short of five mounts. And I loved every minute of it. I have often called it a LABOR OF LOVE!

sorry, to each his own.

Hi. I am in the very early in the process of converting a Ryobi. I am starting to design a biplane to hang it on. this will by far be the biggest i have designed and built. 80 inch top wing and 70 bottom. 13 inch chords. It should be somewatt like a 4*120 I think. Would of you tell me what the spar materials and sizes are in the 4*120? It would certainly boost my confidence in my structural design.
bgfireman I was looking at your pics in post 627, but dont know what sizes of spars are appropriat.

Thanks a ton

flyingagain,
I amcurrently away from the house, but when I return I will get you that info.
Alan
ps
I bet a BUSA Phaeton 90 would be about what you are talking about.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread

Thanks bgfireman
I looked the Phaeton 90 up. Looks good. I will end up with about 20% mor wing area. I have always liked rolling my own. I am only at the drawing stage, But will start cutting rib templates in a few days.
I intend to use boost tabs on all control sufaces so I can use standard sport sevos and smalle rx battery. Looking to save 1lb+, as well as cost. I am presently retrofitting a Super Tigre 3000 powered plan to test these out. Will use futaba s148s vice s33s.
Will post the results

The wing spar is made out of 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch wood. The firs 16 inches is 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch.
Pictures to follow as my computer at home is acting up. When it straightens up I will post.

I took the lite ply end and cut it in half and wood glued it to the end and put some tri stock on both sides and some round edges. I plan on curving my aileerons to match.

No its going to be 1 piece. The white tube is actually a piece of paper for wires to run through for the aileron. If I new how and thought I could get it right I would love to have a two piece wing.

Well the paper tube is a good idea. I wish I had been that smart a couble of times. It can be a real bummer trying to get servo leads thru raw balsa ribs.

Well I have not made a post lately. I have joined wing halves together. I put some extra bracing in the wing. Boy is this thing strong. It does not twist at all.
