I agree with acdii, if it fits give it a shot. This airframe will fly with a wide variety of power plants... I would guess your FG-36 is pushing the upper end of the spectrum! I too, made a hatch under the nose giving access to batteries and ignition module. Enjoy the build!

For those who asked, my 120 weighs in at a hefty 13+ pounds. Didn't know it was that heavy until I went to weigh it and exceeded the scales capacity. LOL

She is a little porky. ;)
With the design of the plane it will still fly real nice though. It has a very wide flight envelope hence the wide range of engines that are successful on it. I still haven't started on mine. Too many projects on the go and not enough time. I did make myself a promise that it will be my next project when I finish the Aeroworks ARF I am working on right now. I hope to have the 120 finished by Christmas. |
I just ordered the last of the stuff for my build. Here is what I will have in it.
1" extended rudder and elevators OS 1.60FX OS aluminum engine mount. 750cc tank Savox 0254 100oz/in servos Futaba aluminum servo arms 4/40 solid wire pushrods for elevator and rudder Robart hinge points Sig wheel pants Forest Green and White scheme 2500mah A123 I haven't decided to clip the wing or not. Maybe a half bay on each side to be a bit different, bring it down to 76" instead of 72". |

I decided to just stay with the full span wing the way it was designed. So the only mods will be to add strength behind the wing and increase the size of the tail feathers. My last project had it's maiden flight today so this one is now on the table. :)

Sounds like a plan Super8!
I spoke with my friend who cartwheeled his 4*120 a few weeks back. It's back flying again! His is a real Frankenstein airplane, fuselage, tail feathers, and wing are all from different airplanes. It has had 3 other engines in it and 2 sets of radio gear. It's the Timex of airplanes, takes a lickin and keeps on tickin! :D |
Hey Super08 you started on your 4*120 already!! nice, i am still waiting for my stuff to arrive for the Giant Big Stick so i can build it and then is full throttle on the 4*120 :)
If you start a thread i definitely will follow it and i will build along
I will just add it on to this thread so s the 120 info stays in one thread.
The more the merrier!

Today I finally got time to get building. I have been really busy at work and ended up working a bunch of OT. I have the first wing tacked together, I will put in the webbing next and touch up all the joints with Titebond II.
I just started mine this week also. What engine are you going to use and are you making any modifications? I am planning to use a G26, enlarge the rudder and elevator and putting in 2 elevator servos in the rear and making the rudder pull = pull.
I am going with a 160FX and enlarged elevators and rudder. My list is in post 805 above.
Hard not to like the 4* 120, it's a good looking plane you can alter if your inclined to, besides it flies real well and will accept several engine choices.

The wing is progressing nicely!

Thanks, I was working on the second panel yesterday but didn't post a picture.
You're moving right along, good progress and the second panel looks as good as the first.
Now build two more and make it a bipe. :)
Yeah that would be cool
Ken |
That got me thinking, does a Bipe have Dihedral?
Most have it on the lower wing only. Some have none at all.
I plan to make a Biper Cub, which has built in dihedral, so will have to study it a bit to remove the top wing dihedral. This will be an interesting build, but not for a few years, plenty of other projects lined up.
I know what you mean. So many projects so little time!
I need to hire a team to build all the projects floating around in my head
A bipe can have dihedral, from very little to a rather fair amount, and would fly like a 3 channel (no ailerons).. Fly very well in fact. Ken |
