GeeBee Dreamer Bipe?
 

I don't know anyone who has built any of the Gee Bee brand kits. I have read some threads on other sites long ago that the dreamer bipe was an enjoyable flyer. I want to know what the kits are like to build. Any opinions?

I know this is an old kit and no one answered the post. I decided to check one out myself. Tower super saver club offers the kit at less than $62. Pitts, Ultimate, and Skybolt kits are all quite a bit more expensive yet the similar type aircraft. I can't buy a 1/2a bipe for that, much less a .45 size kit.
If I like the kit I'll post results, if not I'll learn a lesson.

My flying buddy had one of these that was purple with white splatters, really cool looking. It flew pretty well, was a little squirelly on take off, but that may have been due to inexperience. I'd never flown it, but one day he pretty much made me take the transmitter. I liked it, was cruising around getting used to it, and then it happened. The top wing came off, and there was nothing I could do. I still feel bad about it, but it had been landed hard (very hard) several times before. Any way, cool plane for the money.

I built one of the Gee Bee Bipes years ago and still have it. No problem to build. Just a straight forward balsa kit.

Be careful when you set up the incidence between both wing and the horizontal stab.

You don't need a lot of power if you keep it light.

had my dreamer for a long time.i have scratch built a few for friends.if this tread is still active.i have some mods to make life easier for the model

I never had a Dreamer but it was on my list back in the day. I joined the military and when I got out the kit was no longer available. I knew several guys at various clubs who had them and every one of those planes that I remember was a hot rod. I remember one guy built one so heavy it shouldn't have flown, but it did. It flew heavy but was still very capable.

The ones that were reasonably weights all flew great and landed pretty slow. They were a little difficult on anything less than a smooth field with short grass but with practice they could take off without too much difficulty. I think the Dreamer never received the recognition it deserved.

i agree.i love the plane.i fly a .46ax in mine.over powerd.but man does she do some tricks.some yrs ago i increasesd the plans by 50%,and the model lost all its arobatic properties.my friens flys his with an os 40,and it seems more than enough power.our club field is very bumpy,and she will nose over,but i try to land it on the smooth spots.a big mistake some guys make is having the ail. set too high.she can get out of control fast.i yhought this tread was dead,it was nice seeing someone else likes the dreamer.i did a search on the net to see if there was an actual dreamer bipe,and i found one.i will see if i can find the pic and post it here

With a few measurements it wouldn't be a difficult plane to scratch build. The only thing I don't like about copying bipes from photos is you never know what the wing incidence is supposed to be and until you get that right a bipe can sometimes spend the entire flight a half second from being re-kitted.

i will see if my friend can get a copy made.he knows a guy that owns a print,plans co.my plans have tape marks lol they were copied in bad shape,torn cuz they are very old.if he can we can work out a deal for the cost and shipping.i think it cost about $10 the last time i had plans copied.if you want i can pencil in on them to make it a bolt on wing,top and bottom,so more rubber bads to hold on the wing

ok incidense is easy on the dreamer.bott wing zero,top wing about -1 deg.

I've scratch built most of my planes and modify just about every kit I build so you don't need to modify the plans for me. I'll happily pay to make it worth you and your friend's while to get me a set of plans. Rolled in a tube would be extra awesome!

Folded will work. If you go to someplace like Staples to make the copies they have tubes there.

I have built 2,I love the way it fly's The first one twenty years ago from kit bought from tower hobbies, II just finished scratch building the second one with mods (no rubber bands holding one the wing) and it fly's great.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2090017

looks good.i am a dreamer lover too.i have scratch built several for myself,and other club members,and they love the plane too.i too have gotten rid of the rubber bands.also used 1/8"flat aluminum for cabanes.no need for wing struts.have fun with her

I milled mine out of .080 sheet of aluminum. made the maiden flight Friday evening she flew great.
tried flying last sunday but had engine problems out of an old os 46 sf that I had replaced with a new 46axll runs and fly's nice

mine is covered in the old army stearman colors yellow wings blue fuse.have fun with yours i have an os 46 ax in mine.plenty of power .have fun,and good luck

I'd like to have a Dreamer to fly, but am not up to building one from plans.

If anybody has one or a Gee Be kit they would part with, give me a holler and we'll talk it over.
