Sig Hog-Bipe kit.
 

I am about to start building a Sig Hog-Bipe kit. Does anybody have any recommendations as to what engine to use with that kit? The plans call for 91 four stroke, I am thinking about using Saito 100, or YS 110. Also, this is going to be my first rc kit, so if any of you have already build this kit, I would appreciate any tips you can share in building it.

Go with the Saito 100, the YS 110 will actually be too much for this plane. The best tip I can give for this plane is to build it with the dual aileron servos in the wing. Other than that build it by the instructions. I've had 3 of the Sig Pigs and they are a fantastic bipe!! You'll be in love with it.

Listen to Ken he's our sig pig guru. One of the guys in our club has a Saito 100 in his hog bipe and I have a Saito 100 in mine. I think it is a nice match.
The YS 110 is a beast of an engine. A YS 63 would pull this plane around nicley.

What prop do you run on your Saito 100?

14x8 or 14x6 are good props for that engine and the Hog Bipe.

do a search for hog bipe build to find a good build threat on it. Read it through and you will get some great ideas on how to build and how many others tackle some of the more difficult areas. It helped me greatly on building mine. I lost it and plan to build another as soon as I finish my Astro Hog I'm building. Oh, and the thread was started by hookedonrc. Or at least I think he spelled it that way. And I put a Saito 72 on mine it and it flew it great for me. I'm more of a scale type flyer though. Good luck. I hope to read more as you go.

If you use the 100, do yourself a favor, and try a 15X6 on it. I won't fly with a 14x6 on mine anymore, the 15x6 pulls so much better.

I got a Super Tiger .61 on mine with a 13x8 prop,seems to pull it around very nicely.

Very nice plane Mike. This is going to be my first kit so I will be happy if my comes out half as nice.... I should be ready to start construction a couple of weeks - still need to go to Kinkos to make copies of the plans, and get a building board.... ;)

I bought a Sig Hog half built. I'm going to finish it after I finish my Cub. BUT.....I already have the Saito 100 sitting on the shelf for it! Sounds like I also made the right choice. Kewl!

Neither. I found some 1" checkers made in some 'China' kote. it works ok... but i much prefer monokote. I've done a checkerboard with both monokote and paint (dope) before, it's a lot easier if it's pre-printed.

absolutely goregous color scheme mc.. the nice thing about hog bipes or the monoplane version is they fly great on a wide range of engines..I think you clinched me on my next kit!my flying buddy has a hog bipe and used a mag 91 four stroke and flew it very well.he then flew another one and this time used a satio 100.both are winners but I will opt for the satio 100.I agree that while the ys 110 is one heck of a powerhouse it its a tad too much for the bipe ..

After careful consideration I decided to use Saito 125 - it is only 2 oz. heavier then the 100, and almost the same size, so it should go in there pretty well. It may be a bit too much power, so I will need to manage my throttle, but I will be able to use the 125 in wider variety of planes in the future.....

One hint in my experience is move the landing gear plate ahead 1/2 inch. This will make the plane much easier to land and take off.

Well, I finally started on the bipe - I have to say, this being my first build may prove to be a little more challenging than I thought. Any way, I have taken a couple of pics, so feel free to voice your opinions, or share any building tips..............

Ok, here are some more pics - the top wing is coming along pretty good, still needs to be sheeted, the trailing edge needs to be glued in and the wing tips... - I got it temporarily off the building board so I could build the stab and the fin......

Watch when you set the dihedral on the lower wing very carefully. It will determine whether or not the interplane strut line up properly. Looks pretty good, very good in fact for a first build!

Just finished an Astro Hog, yet to fly due to winter weather, and I enjoyed the build so much that I would like to build the Hog-Bipe next. Not a very easy kit to find to purchase and the price is all over the place. I have already purchased a Magnum 91 4 stroke for the Hog-Bipe, this size seems to be the choice. I have an st 61 in the Astro Hog and can't wait to go fly her. The Hog-Bipe will be a natural progression I would think. Would you agree?

I guess you could say that, but with all the honesty it is hard for my to say, because this is my first build, so I guess it just depends what you start with - in your case Astro-Hog. I would imagine there are not many major differences, with the exception that with the bipe you will need to build two wings....
I am going to use Saito 125.... As far as the price and where to buy call this guy:

The Hog Bipe is a great choice after the Astro Hog. I've built 2 of each and they both fly very well. The bipe fuselage is a lot easier to build as well. The .91 four stroke is also a great match. That's what I fly on my bipe although if I ever build another the Saito 1.00 would be my choice.

The Hog Bipe is a great first bipe and won't surprise you. Just keep in mind it has a lot more drag than the monoplane so keep some power on during final approach.
