LT-40 Kadet Prop Question

Hello All,

I'm almost done building the LT-40 and just order the engine an O.S. .55 AX ABL the Recommended Props according to the O.S. site for this engine are: 11 x 6, 11 x 7, 12 x 6, 12 x 7, 13 x 6. I was thinking of going down the middle with a 12X6 however with the stock landing gear I'm not sure if I will have enough ground clearance. Should I upgrade the landing gear to get more clearance, maybe get slightly larger wheels to get the same results, go with smaller Prop or a combination. I have been out of the hobby for 22 years so I am approaching this a new comer. your experience and advice is appreciated.

RE: LT-40 Kadet Prop Question

If you up the nose wheel 1/2" in diameter you'll gain more than upsizing all the wheels the same. But she may want to keep flying unless you slow and flair well on landing. I'd probably opt for the 12" myself, though I am running 10.5 X 8 and 11 x 7 on my ST G-51 engine. You won't need the additional speed to gain lift with the .55 on an LT-40, though.

I am also just about done building this kit..... However I lost the manual ( just got back to it after 6 month layoff ). Could you tell me the 3 measurements they give you to balance the plane. I think the shorter of the three is for beginners.

1 Attachment(s)
3 1/2 inches from leading edge for beginner.
3 7/8 for a middle of the road, good for intermediate flyer
4 1/4 inches if your an expert.
Hope this helps, just finihed my a week ago

I am flying my lt40 with OS46ax &11-4 prop.
It gets airborn quickly . I fly at half throttle or slightly under , good speed for a newbie{me}.

I am also building a LT-40. Just completed joining the wings a few nights ago. Mine will be using the ST-40 engine. Since most of the flying areas are grass, I'll be replacing the kit provided wheels, with slighty larger ones.

RE: LT-40 Kadet Prop Question

with the 55ax i would run either a 12-4 or a 13-4 prop. I run a 12-4 on my girlfriends plane with the stock kit supplied wheels on a grass field and in the spring time it does a good amount of grass cutting. It's not bad in the summer when the grass is kindof dormant. To use the engine to it's potential i would go with tyhe bigger wheels as suggested just for ground cleance with a 13-4 prop.
