I've started on a Mid Star, as a second plane. I have a question on the wing. Is it okay to leave off the ply wing tips? Any other mods. I'm making it a tail dragger, should I use a Sullivan Tail Wheel? Thanks

Sure it's all right to leave off the tips, may even increase the roll rate a bit. A Sullivan should work all right. If you haven't built the wing I would suggest that you change the turbulator spars from balsa to hardwood as they tend to break easy if you grab the wing wrong. Also go to hardwood on the turtle deck as that's a weak spot also. Here's some other mods that I would make and I came to these from the one I built. Increase the control surface by 25% for a more responsive plane. I had a TT .46 PRO on mine and it was a perfect match up and even built to the plans the plane is a real winner. Lost mine to battery (Rx) failure, broke my heart!!!! :( Have fun with yours.

OK to leave off the wingtips. I replaced mine with a ply copy of the wing rib simply to protect from hangar rash. The plane flys great and I second the motion to increase the throws. Leave them on the suggested lows until you get the feel of the plane, then increase for fun.

GrnBrt & Jim, Thanks for your replies. I have the right wing panel done. I was building Herr Star Cruiser last year, and broke one of its balsa spars, so I am using hardwood spars. I expected that I would do the same with this one also. The tail feathers can be enlarged, it will be a bit down the road. Somewhere around here I have a TT 40 & 46 Pro that I plan to use. I may start with the 40 and then change to the 46 later. I will also change to hardwood for the turtledeck. I am going very slowly with this thing so I don't screw it up too bad. I also have Magnum 52 4 stroke I may try also. We'll see about that later on. Thanks again.

You can leave off the tips, but make sure you beef up the last rib with at least 3/16 balsa (or ply like Jim did) Or when you shrink the covering, it can bow the end rib.

I am building a 4 * some where I saw that the wingtip ribs will pull in when you shrink the covering w/o the ply. I am putting a sullivan rear wheel on mine --wont go back as far as I would like but looks ok

Mid Star = Awesome plane! :D

I used one as my basic trainer, and took it all the way up to an IMAC contest. Just talked with Bruce Tharpe last weekend at our model expo, and he said it is probably one of the most underrated planes out there. Can't help but agree with him.

Leave the wing tips on , don't take the ailerons to the ends. Yes the spars need to be sprue the one in the picture has over 60 flights . The damage it has was from a R/C motorcycle in the pits. These are great little planes. Hope you have fun with it.
