Look at:
Balsa USA's 1/4 scale bipes [& tripes]
Proctor
Glenn Torrance
Flair
FunAero
plans for many more are available, if you can scratchbuild, or have someone cut it for you

What era / plane are you looking for??

Look at the Midwest Stearman kit, 90-1.20 size.

At the size you want, try the Flair giant scale PT-17 kit , the Balsa USA 1/3 Stearman kit, Bob Dively Stearman kit, or a Ziroli Stearman, which comes in two sizes, IIRC. A few kit cutters offer the Ziroli Stearmans as kits. There is a NIB Balsa USA Stearman listed for sale on Ebay right now--just saw it last night.

I tried to find the BUSA Stearman on Ebay without success. If you could find it aganin and post the exact link it would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the link. It didn't meet reserve so the guy may work with you on the price. [link]http://cgi.ebay.com/BALSA-USA-1-3-SCALE-STEARMAN-PT-17-KIT_W0QQitemZ330217598548QQihZ014QQcategoryZ2563QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem[/link]

The BUSA Stearman is a very large airplane requiring a 4.2ci gas engine or larger! There are not very many aerobatic bipe kits left, much less designed specifically for a 1.40 4-stroke. The Lanier Pitts was recently discontinued. The Balsa USA EAA bipe is still available in a kit (for now) and would be a good match for your engine. You want to stay in the 8-9 pound range with about 60-65" wingspan to keep it fun. Good luck.

P.S. If your set on a Stearman the Midwest kit looks like the only option.

Busa's Phaeton 90 would be a good candidate. Flew mine with a saito 120. A 140 would do nicely. Lots of info here on rcu about this kit.

One other option is to spring for one of the old Sterling PT-17 kits that are always popping up on Ebay. There are usually a couple listed every week or two--I see them all the time on there. Average selling price is around $150-$200. A 1.40 is likely a bit much for it, unless you are looking for some 'very spirited' performance.
The 77" span Ziroli PT-17 is the next closest size option, aside from the Midwest kit. IMHO this is probably the best match size-wise for the 1.40. The plan calls for a 35-42cc gas engine, and a finished weight of 16-20 lb.

I have the Great Planes PT-17 ARF, and it's a very nice flyer. I'd have much preferred a kit, but there isn't a lot to choose from for kits of this size any more. The Ziroli Stearman is offered as a short kit on his website.

Ziroli? A 1.40 ci is only 23cc!

Consider whether or not a 23cc glow engine makes more power than a 23cc gasoline engine.

Ok Rick,
I'll consider it......... Yep, even a 2.40 glow engine would be a disappointment on a aerodynamically dirty, 18 pound Stearman biplane. A 1.40 would just be dangerous.

RE: Biplane kit needed.

My Great Planes PT-17 weighs 13 lb, and it is recommended to be flown with up to a 2 or 4 stroke stroke 1.20 (although mine is electric). A Ziroli Stearman would presumably weigh only four pounds more, so a 1.40 should be doable, at least on the low end. Military Stearmans aren't meant to fly like a Pitts anyway.

What 1.40 engine do you have?

JMHO.

I found this one this morning, got distracted and decided I had to build it myself.. (yeah another one on my todo list)
If you feel like cutting your own parts this would be a great Biplane
