Kits

I would like to know why we can not ask people on this thread about a kit we may be looking for or have for sale? I seems to me that this is what this site is about!

RE: Kits

This forum is to discuss the building of kits. For sale ads in the discussion forum's are in violation of the posting rules of RCU. If you have a kit for sale, the RCU market place is a great place to sell your stuff. You can post an ad for free and the Market Place is a great way to sell things. As for finding a kit that you want, once again the Market Place is a great resource. You can also read the threads and sometimes members will mention that they have a kit they might be willing to part with, however all talks about the sale of the kit need to be done in private. RCU does recomend the Market Place as it allows you to leave a bad rating for an RCU member if the deal goes south. Good Luck, Dave

RE: Kits

Just to further elaborate, the reason that for sale ads are prohibited in the forums is to prevent commercial sellers from continually posting ads and interupting the forum traffic. Since it is hard to make exceptions, no one gets to post ads.

I have found that the occasional mention of an item for sale seldom gets much interest from a mod, but doing it repeatedly will cause you problems. Also, if you are interested in something, send a PM to the member in question. There is no rule against discussing commerce in private messages.

this wonderful site would be bombarded with posts for items for sale. in effect it would just about ruin what we have currently.

You can post "Looking for plans/kit for a Flim Flam .40" Someone might chime in with a source. Or you can search the forums for any posts related to the plane your looking for .Then simply send them a "private message". I have been contacted many times privately regarding a kit or a set of plans that I have. This weekend I am going to copy a set of plans for a fellow RCU member that contacted me thru "private message".

What about folks that want to trade straight across? If there is a location on RCU's site for this, then I have been missing it for many years.

RE: Kits

you can also post items for trade in the RCU market place if you want something in particular just make a note in the add your posting, there are quite alot of items with notations about desire for trade rather than cash,I had a Hangar-9 mustang I got for a deal and ended up trading it for a pumped OS 120Surpass engine.

the cost was a wash, since the ARF cost me what the advertiser wanted for the engine.
I wanted the motor and he got the plane he wanted, we were both happy with the deal we recieved and I didn't have to deal with selling the plane I didn't need, to get the money for the engine I did need.

"Willing to trade?" Is a yes/no option when you post a free RCU ad.

Maybe it is my old age getting to me, or my state of health (same thing in my case), but as much as I love RCU in principle, I find it very difficult to navigate and very nonintuitive to use.

There are times when I don't want to mess with looking for an hour and a half to find out how a feature works, or even exists. I just want to do it.

I suppose the real problem is that what is good for me, is not necessarily profitable for RCU. We know who will win that fight.

This issue has nothing to do with profitability for RCU. When Marc formed RC Universe one of his goals was to set up a forum that didn't do the things that he didn't like about other forums. One of those things was classifieds (for sale, wanted, and for trade ads) in the general discussion forums. One main reason for this is that these kinds of things distract from the discussions going on in those forums. Having been on other forums that do allow things like this I have to agree with Marc's vision. It's very hard to read threads that are littered with for sale ads, especially when I am trying to find an answer to a discussion. I equate that to how annoying it would be in real life. Imagine you're at the flying field talking with your flying buddies. You're have a good conversation when somebody pokes in to your little circle and says "Hey there, I've got an Edge 540 for sale. It's only got 5 flights on it and it's a great bargain". That would be totally annoying in real life and that is why Marc doesn't want it to happen here on RCU. This is why we have the RCU Marketplace to place such ads.

OK:

Where do you find the wanted page?

It might be nice if we users could read Mark's mission statement (a brief description), so that we may understand why things are the way they are.

My previous post was not intended as a challenge nor an unfavorable critique of Mark's efforts.

top of the page there is the tool bar click "BUY&SELL" to the left of that page there is a directory just click from there,planes,cars,boats,etc.....its pretty easy from there.

Ed, I agree with you, it seems kinda hard to find postings here on RCU you may have read and want to go back and re-read more on the subject in post. [:-] Capt,n
