BUSA Smoothie Building

Has anyone built the re-released Smoothie? I've seen some pics but no build thread and was wondering about inverting the engine.

Hi

A friend of mine built one of the original kits, and had the engine inverted. It was a K & B 40. He started the engine with the plane up-side down in a cradle and adjusted the engine just slightly to the lean side, just a hair. You will have to experiment with engine settings to get it right. he flew it quite a bit and never seemed to have problems with the engine. It was a nice flying plane.

Naaa, the inverted mounting is just fine, just don't use a airbleed carb engine, usually the cheaper engines with plain bearings have single needle carbs. Mine had a supertiger gs 40 ring, worked perfectly. I started mine like normal on it's wheels and tweaked the needle to peak and did the nose high tune as well. I will be building my re-release soon, after my extra 40 build. I'm using the same setup I used before, ST 40 and maybe a tuned pipe or a tatone muffler to keep it conceiled. Possibly I might make a plug of the nose and make a cowl.
