I decided to finish a 1/4 scale project I began over a year ago and it was a sig 1/4 scale spacewalker 2..I want to install a motr that will move it around somewhat agressively.I was going to install my os 1.20 but I also have a satio 1.50 not being used currently and thought that might be even better.would be interested in anyone who has use a 120 or a 150 four stroke in this plane. I am going to use a fabric covering and the weight of the plane according to sig will be around 12 pounds or slightly less.

I have the same plane underway. I presently use my Saito 125 in a Four Star 120 and for my style of flying (not very aggressive) it is a good combo. The two planes are quite similar in specs so I intend to move it to the Spacewalker II when ready.

The 150 would probably be a better choice for you,,, sounds like your plane will be heavier than the Four Star 120 arf.

Easy. OS 1.60FX. Put your building skills to the test. Honestly, to make the Space Walker fly agressivelly you will need a 1.60 Nitro or 35cc gas.

I had one with a saito 150 and it flew it scale like but could have used more power for my taste, I think a saito 180 or the 220 would be good match.

[8D]Install the Saito 1.50. It is the best all around engine for this aircraft. I know. I have built and flown three of
these kits. Plenty of power.

I have a Magnum 1.60 twin in mine. It provides plenty of power, for my flying style.

Hello; My spacewalker has a Saito 120s in it. It'll do any maneuver I can think of, takes off from our grass field in 25 feet. It won't hover, but I have electric planes for that. I don't understand why people insist on putting huge engines in perfectly lovely planes. We fly at sea level here on the coast. But - - - it's a hobby, and if it makes you smile, go ahead and put any engine you like in there, and have fun.

all your comments were very helpful.while I have a satio 180 (currently on my PT-19) I am going to hang my satio 150 on the spacewalker and I honestly am not sure what the final wait will be I am assuming that once I cover it with koverall and paint it it might be a tad heavier than I normally build.I plan to use the pull-pull cables but with a a heavier engine has anyone installed servos in the tail?and if you did what kind of flying did you get or even if the result was nominal.also love the color scheme with red and black!!

If I used the 180 your comments about engine overkill would be great but a 150 is a 120 with the head bored out and thats why they have throttle control.lastly I use my 3dhobby planes for hovering and violent blenders etc .I am not one who enjoys 3D on a scale plane.I just got my funjet going to quench my need for speed lol.the spacewalker is going to do aerobnatics and I just want them to be crips and done with ample power under the hood.

Your 1.50 will be fine. I suggest that you over prop it, allowing the motor to emit a beautiful "chugging" sound.

I haven't weighed mine, but I'm guessing that it's in the 15# range.

I would not place any servos in the tail area. Even with the 1.60 twin up front, I had to place my RX batteries in the fuel tank compartment. My servos are located in the stock location.

your right tom scratch the wing servos sticking out.suprised though as the 150 seems heavy but thats me.I noticed your your using 645's and I noticed you used a single servo connection to the rudder???I havent decided totally on my servos yet but I like hitecs and will use some 645's but am wondering if my DS JR 821's would be suitable too.I am using a 6v pack..I know I could cover the plane using plastic film but I have always wanted to try covering with fabrixc so I have sig coverall.more work but I enjoy building as well as flying.

Yup, I used a 1/4 scale Sullivan nyrod, on the rudder. Elevator, too. I like the simplicity of the installation.

My SW is covered in Solartex, painted with Nelson Hobby Specialties paints.

Haven't looked up the specs, but I wouldn't worry about the 150's weight. On mine, I adjusted the balance by moving my RX pack, until I got it right.

I subscribe to the KISS method as well so why am I using coverall and painting.lolactually I just wanted to try using a spray gun as my wife bought a compressor for her brad nailer of which she redoes furniture.I like your cockpit details as well. what is the material you used on the fuse frame shown in the pictures.I was going to reinforce the longerons with small gussets but I see you have a different modification.mind sharing that..

I used CA hinge material for the gussetts.

I had a little fun, adding a few cockpit details, using walnut burl for the instrument panel. The guages were from stuff that I had on hand.

I used leather from a garage sale purse, on the seat backs. The foam, used to line the cockpit edges, was lined with a T-shirt. I used foam safe spray adhesive to hold it in place.

excellent!!! you did a fabulous job and have made me re-think things..I thought about gussets just for added strength but the cockpit detail is amazing.do you have a source for the instrument panel?I finished my wing last night and plan to complete the airframe shortly and begin the real work covering and finishing the model.love your pics as they have been very helpful. making the seats will be easy as my wife is a bigtime quilter and sews. have you flown your spacewalker?

I've flown my SW twice. The weather turned bad in the last 3 weeks, so there have been no further flights.

She flew so well, that I let two friends fly her on the initial flight !

The instrument panels are scratch built. I used the panels provided in the kit for templates. Walnut burl was laminated to sheet plastic and holes drilled for the instruments. Minnwax PollyCryllic was used to provide a gloss finish to the burl.

Brass tubing was cut, and painted silver, to simulate the chrome bezels. Clear plastic was glued to the back of the IP, and the "instruments" were glued to the plastic.

I bought the instrument faces at swap meets. Other dodads were added for effect.

thank you in a big way.I wish I was as creative as you! thanks for sharing the pics .over the cold winter I will take sometime and add similar detail.since the season is just about shot here I started working on the spacewalker and almost have it completely framed out.I am just trying to decide what servos to use in the wings..I have some DS821's that on 6v give about 89 ounce inches and should be plenty and use my 645's in the rudder /elevator.the only thing I havent found yet is the gold stripping tape for the sunburst but should be able to find it soon. you have been such a help and motivator thanks..

I bought my striping tape at an automotive paint store. It's a 3M product.

Adding details isn't hard. It just takes time and imagination. Go for it !!!

I should have thought about automotive .one of the things you learn with scale or any model building is that theres always a easy solution somewhere and not every part you need has to come from a hobby shop.although I did see that J'tec has instrument panel sheets and available from tower at a inexpensive price so I will fashion a instrment panel this winter ..I added some gussets to the airframe last night and it really strenghtened the stringers without adding any weight. what kind of muffler did you use o the powerplant.I was thinking I could use tubing of some sort to keep it more realistic.

The hobby shop, in my town, is virtually useless. I have to get innovative in order to find what I need.

My 1.60 twin has no mufflers. I slipped some brass tubing over the exhaust stacks, and ran it out the bottom.

I know about useless hobbyshops.I cross the stateline and travel nearly 1hour and 20 minutes to get to a good shop.not too happy today as yesterday I was flying my bang around arf ultrastick and the wings folded.not really upset that the plane went down as I have hundreds of flites on it but I am vey upset it landed on on the neighjbors property and he is not the friendliess of people.mind you its his family we rent the field from for 30+ years but its hunting season so he doesnt want us running onto the property as he is convinced our human scent will scare all the deer away.so I was limited where I could look and the brush is thick with tall cattails so right now all I have are 2 wing halves.I explained to him that the motor and electronics to replace are very expensive but right now deep hunting is his prioity so sadly I am screwed on this one.

I love seeing your pics and I hate to ask but I am going with the single rudder connect but not sure what kind of tailwheel assembly to use with it ..did you use what came with sig or do something different.still not sure about that or the wing servos to install given I am using my satio 150.

I used the tail wheel assembly that Sig provided.

My SW has Hitec 645s in the wings. They have more power than needed. They are surface mounted, on the bottom of the wing.

The ailerons have a ply plate, to which the control horns are mounted. I didn't use the Sig belcrank, mounted to a rib.

as usual your pics explain everything!I didnt like the bellcrank sig provided so fortunately I hadnt installed it and use a horn mounted to a plywood plate.I am going with jr 821's in the wing .the 6v gives about 90 ounce inch and I'll stick with 645's on the tail.I have been looking at color schemes too.I am enjoying this build . thanks for your help.I'll be happy to post pics when done.

I'll try posting a couple later .I am going to tackle the landing gear..I havent ever had to put one like this together .usually I have solid gears .
