Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
excellent deals! $218 each shipped.... free shipping. I guess they are trying to dump their remaining inventory. No more after this....ever!
BTW, I think the Goldberg Ultimate may possibly be discontinued. It's not in this month's Tower catalogue and there are only 18 or so left in inventory and the price is dropping....just a rumor. Mike |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Where? I cannot see any on their website. Do you have a link?
|
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
I guess I didn't look closely enough! I just ordered a Super Stearman and a Little CAP...
|
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
This is on the tower site? I'm not seeing it. Are they completely gone?

RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Someone posted the deal back in November and I ordered the 80" Extra. Right now I've got the tail and the fuse done and am just starting on the wings. It was right at $202 delivered via UPS ground then.
http://shopmidwestproducts.com/-strs...Categories.bok They called everyone who ordered after the guy posted the info that they were selling them out and asked if they really wanted a kit because someone ordered one and thought it was an ARF. Anyway odd that they have them now but they do. I called at least twice in the last two years and was told they were all out. The Extra I got was the new one with the airfoiled tail FYI. Just so you know it's a WOOD kit with plans. It does not include a cowl or wheel pants but did include a canopy. I ordered the cowl/canopy from Fiberglass Specialites. It does come with hardware. |

Thanks for the link. I did eventually find it after a google search.
Right now it's showing $230 plus shipping which for my zip code is ~ $20 bucks. I'm not sure it's that great a deal considering you still have to buy a cowl and wheels pants. If I remember correctly they did give you a coupon toward that purchase but I don't think it was for the full amount. |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Unreal.
I know on Midwest's website they still mght even have a Stearman. That's too bad about the Ultimate. That is my favorite plane of all times. Thankfully, I have one that I fly, and two in the box. What a shame. Friggin ARFs. I would totally be in on a ceremonious "ARF burning." |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
The month of November was free shipping. I'm not sure it applies in December.
Even the price of $220 was reduced to like $202 when I went thru the checkout. Regardless of price name other aerobatic kits that are still available in the 2.10glow/40-50cc gas size? Few and far between these days. The place for the coupon included in the kit isn't in business anymore I think. I ordered from Fiberglass Specialites and had it in less than a week for around $80 total for pants and cowl. |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
I understand how you feel about ARFs, don't get me wrong I love to build, and I don't want to start a kit vs. ARF war but spending somewhere around $330 for a kit/cowl/wheels pants you have too build and cover/paint is hard to justify when you can buy a very nice 50CC size ARF for ~ $550. I'm just going to stick to building warbird kits.

What You mean is, it's hard to justify haveing that much fun for only $330?

I'm just going to stick to building warbird kits. That's about right. While unpacking my kit I piled it next to a stack of balsa/ply for another project and had about the same amount of material in each. The "pile" cost about the same and had no hardware, plans were $55 extra, no canopy etc...and I had to substitute basswood for spruce which the midwest includes....and it's laser cut as opposed to be being "me" cut lol. I have openly joked in the past that sooner or later it's going to be cheaper to buy old kits for wood than buying the wood itself...we're about there now. Oh and half the bags in the midwest kit are labeled made in the USA or made in Italy as opposed to China. |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Thanks for the info. That makes it a little more tempting.

RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
I'm on my third MW Extra 300 right now, it's almost ready to cover,
Yes an arf would be only $100 or so more by the time you buy everything for the kit, but some guys, like me, like to have a one of a kind airplane. I intend to cover it in the same color scheme my Ohio RC Ultimate had (check gallery if you're interested) Build on boys and girls (are there any girl builders?) |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Well the good news is 3/4 thru my build of the Extra.
The bad news is I realised I have 4 R-6 ribs and zero R-7 ribs and called Midwest about it. Anyone need an already built fuse with no wings? |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Oh well.... the Extra and Cap are very, very heavy compared to todays standards and fly as such! It is a real shame to see the Ultimate go if that is the case. POS ARF's!!!!!!!!

RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Did you guys see how cheap the little Cap is?
I'm tempted to pick one up just cuz http://shopmidwestproducts.com/-strs...ane/Detail.bok |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
65.45 including shipping for the little cap. I now have one on the way.
On a secondary note: Is anyone looking for the Midwest Giles 202 kit? |

Anyone need an already built fuse with no wings? but I do have this, the left over from knocking out the ribs I'd be happy to mail it to you Midwest is looking "into it". I'll give them a week and call them back. If they can't manage to come up with something I'd be all over it and just make another. Out of all the parts to be short on a wing rib is about the only thing that's not easily just made up on the spot. I could do it by scaling the ones I already have but that's a lost resort. Thanks for the offer I'll let you know. |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Ordered my Extra Wednesday nite for $230 + $16.50 shipping which magically became $218.50 with free shipping at checkout. Got shipping confirmation yesterday. I've wanted one for years and figured this might be my last chance. I've had Midwest kits (2 Aerostar .40's ans a USCG utiltiy boat) and found them to be excellent. I'm not sure how far down the build queue this is going to end up, but I finally have it and I am geeked.
. Any suggestions on powerplants that seemed to work particularly well? I think this is going to my first gasser and would appreciate any comments. Thanks!!! |
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
I just ordered a Lil Cap for $68.90 shipped. Almost ordered 2, but ya know...
|
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
I got my big cap before Christmas and got it with free shipping and some bucks off the listed price. It totaled up to 218.00
|
RE: Midwest Extra and Cap!!!
Got my Little Cap a week ago or so. The kit looks great, wood is all bagged and looks to be good quality and straight. Die cutting looks crisp.
Who knew this is a Mike McConville design? Hard to beat for 70 bucks!! |
