Airplane Tree..

I didn't know where to put this, But I wanted to share my Storage Project. I call it my "Airplane Tree". I am able to store 5 (The Smallest one on the inside of the tree) fuses in about a 3'x3' area.. It took me about 2-3 hours to make, and less than $20 in materials.. I even had some casters that I put on the legs, and I am able to turn it whichever way I need to get to the fuses.. :)

Somebody told me a long time ago not to store planes nose down because the clunk line will take a set.. Can you hold it with the prop? The stabs are wider anyway so they will fit the stand better. I like that idea, I think I'm going to the shop to make one! Great idea!!

I Don't know if you could store them nose up. I would be afraid to store them by hanging them from the prop, I would think that the Plastic/Nylon composit (what ever) props would bend under the pressure, and possibly ruin the props!

If you put a small piece of brass tubing in the clunk line in your fuel tank you won't have to worry about the clunk line going forward or setting with a curve in it. Ken |

That's a good idea. Thinking about it, it would be real easy to break the tail off running it into something with the tail down. Thanks RCKEN

Templedude, I actually turned the planes nose up, and I did start hitting the tail feathers.. I am going to put them back upside down, it will protect the tail better!! :)

Yes it is an Ultra Sport 1000.. I just bought it last Sunday. It has a Super Tigre s3000 on it.. I haven't flown it yet, as the weather hasn't cooperated. also, I am a bit scared to fly it, as it is the biggest plane I have ever had. I haven't flown anything with a much over 60" or so.. Any Tips? Also, I was told that the engine goes through a 24oz tank in 5 mins. I have been told that this isn't normal. so I checked the carb (OS 7D) and the o-ring was cracked, and I am hoping that was the problem! Craig. |

Nothing to worry about. The Ultra Sport is a very stable flyer that won't reach out and bite you. Set up dual rates for full throw and about 60%. If you feel the controls are fast when you first get in the air simple drop to low rates and you'll do just fine. The Ultra Sport is probably the best flying sport plane ever made (IMHO) and it doesn't have any nasty habits. Ken |

I have since put padding on the hooks so that they don't leave nice little indents on the stabs.
I decided that it's best if you can find 4 straight 2x2's(it's not as easy as it sounds, most of the 2x2's are twisted orwarped.) Anyway, I used my compound miter saw set at 5 deg miter and 5deg tilt. Cut both ends, that's what makes the tilt of the legs, andhas the top and bottom parallel to the floor. the top ply piece is 8x8"then I just tied the legs together with 1x2's. it's nice and sturdy!Mine is 6' tall, but I could have gone shorter, you see how far off thefloor that Ultra Sport 1000 is off the floor. I probably could havegone 4.5' or so and still have been good. I got the hooks at Wally World for about a $1 each. Craig. |

I know you can't see the plane, but the one with the red tail opposite side of the tree from the US1000 is an Extra 300s, I have yet to fly that too, as I have been told that they are very touchy/difficult to fly. I have been flying a Sig Kougar and GP Venus II with great results. do you think I would have any problems transitioning to the Extra? Thanks, Craig. |

Fly the Ultra Sport first. It will be a good transition between your Kougar and Venus to the Extra!! But here's a tip, once you fly the Ultra Sport you may forget you have the Extra ;)
