I did not cover the rudder last night, but I did test out some more panels with Flite-Metal. I took a crappy picture with my phone, here it is. It looks much better in person.

I fiberglassed the horizontal stab top and bottom over the weekend. I used 1.5 oz tight weave cloth and West Systems Epoxy. I added a small piece of .025 ply to each end of the stab to cover the exposed foam where the balance tab goes. The stab is ready for primer and flight metal next.

Scott Are you still with me? What happened was that Summer came along and my boat got in the way of my Texan build. Now that's over, the boat is winterized and the shop heater is fired up. I'm planning to get back on the Texan over the weekend. My shop is a disaster area right now, so first things first. |

I need to order mine before I wait too late. I am dying for one of these projects. Just sold my 20 year old Midwest, and miss it terribly already. I want flaps though. Can't wait. This is one sweet kit. Scott |
Nice looking plane. I have the Midwest AT-6 that I've been flying for a few years and one still in the box. I was going to do some work on it this winter but maybe I should sell both of them and build one of these. So I'm watching.

Hey Mike
Started on a standoff cockpit for the T6! Hope I can complete the project after the holidays with all the other work I have making patterns! I will keep you informed… http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2050721http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2050722http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2050723http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2050724 |
OK Mike. Dave posted in the thread today, so now you need to post your photos and get us up to date on your progress. Ha Ha Ha. Can't wait to see your progress. I had a very pleasurable discussion with Dave today about this wonderful T-6 kit. What a knowledgeable aviation gentleman who knows his stuff and his wonderful kit inside and out. I Sold my Midwest Texan several weeks ago, so now I'm fully committed because I can't go long without a large scale T-6. I'm going to be ordering my kit in a couple weeks, and I'm starting to feel like a kid on Christmas morning. It's been a good while since my juices have started flowing like they have with the anticipation of a new project. This is just what the Dr, ordered for my winter project. Bet you guys can't tell I'm pumped about this beautiful kit. : )

Hey Guys... Well I spend most of the day applying aluminum foil (like Flite-Metal) to the starboard side and about half of the port side of the fuse panel for panel. I obviously have several more panels to go before it's done. I'll tell you what though... painting would've been a lot easier.. It'll look good in the end, after I wipe off the finger prints and buff the aluminum a little. I decided to do a couple of panels in a "dull" finish like the full scale pictured in post # 55.

My midwest at6 is all silver and I don't like it. I think it's difficult to see. I'm going to redo it this winter and add some yellow

Did you ever finish this project? How did it fly?
|
I moved again and the Texan is still boxed up in storage. I've been working on several other kits, a Byron Staggerwing, a Byron Glassair, a Byron Bonanza, a BUSA Ercoupe and an AMR Super Decathlon on the bench now. So to answer your question... no it's not finished, although the fuse is basically done, the wing still needs fiberglass. It's been too cold down there lately, so let's hope spring is eternal.

High,
Been looking through your thread and what you have done looks great! I purchased a SD Texan a while ago and have been converting it to an A-27. I modified several things along the way to suit my own building preferences. It is just now starting to come together but like you I have been working on another build. I have posted some photos of where mine is at and hope to see more of your build in the future. The pictures should speak for them selves but I would be happy to try and answer any questions. |
