I've installed an OS 50 Hyper in my brand new Caliber 5. Since I'm new to helicopters I was really thorough when reading instructions and following them. Everything is in and loctite is where it's supposed to be. BUT, when I insert the starter shaft to start the heli, it spins a few times, but then the fan assebly bites against the fan case (top of the frame). I inspected this and dissasembled everthing and did it over again. Same thing happens. I don't know why, but it seems the main shaft with the clutch and bell unscrews from the engine shaft, causing everything to climb a few millimeters and get stuck to the fan casing.
Pleas tell me how to fix this problem. I can't figure it out!

Clean the threads.
Lockite the fan after tightening it with a crank lock tool. The make sure the prop nut is tight, use the aforementioned crank lock and a socket wrench.
Here's the important part, let the locktite cure 24 hours before you try to start it.
Also clamp your fuel line till you are ready to start the engine to keep from hydro locking which will make it spit the fan.

I'm clearly more of a newbie than I thought... What's hydro locking? The rest of your sollution seem to be just what the doctor ordered! Thanks my friend!

Its the filling of the head with fuel to the point that the engine cant be turned over. Liquid is essentially uncompressable so the piston cant move. Hammering on it with a starter does one of two things, the engine kicks and spins the fan loose or the rod breaks in half and the crank shaft can spin w/o the piston going anywhere.
Our engine installations are prone to flooded engines because of the way the engine is oriented, that is carb up, cylender down, its just gravity doing its thing.

Youll probaly get some better advice on tuning engines than from me. But,
When I had this problem it was the needle valve too rich. Check the low speed needle is set to the factory setting, then lean the high speed needle a bit to see if it will start. 3/4 to 1 turn out.
I live in a hot climate and found the needles required to be leaner than the manual suggested.
Once you get it started adjust the high and low needle to as rich as you can, while still maintaining smooth operation.
Do a search on the OS engine forums as there is a few different theories on running in new engines.
Dont run it too lean.
Cheers
