Default Caliber 30 throttle set up?

Folks, building my first gas helo and have a throttle set up question. On my airplanes I always set up my throttle so stick full off and trim full off kills the engine and trim full on is idle.

How do I do this on my helo when the throttle and pitch share the same stick and trim? Should I be trying to use this method anyway?

Also, how do you prime the engine prior to start when the body covers the carb, I can't get my finger over the inlet to pull fuel out of the tank?

Thanks, Mike.

You can still set the idle trim the way you want.
Set the idle trim to were the helli idles and than
set the main rotor pitches like you want.
You can use the idle trim to shut of the engine
like you want.

Depending on your type of radio the idle set up
and shut down can be done various ways.

I set the idle trim to neutral and leave it there.
I set the throttle idle by the throttle curve and i
assign a swith on the radio to shut the helli down.

You dont have to prime the engine on the caliber 30.
I guess if you did have to you could hold your finger over
the exhaust outlet and spin the engine over. That will
act like a choke.

Thanks, I think I have it close. She started right up. Talk about quiet . Next job it to build a test stand so I can start tweaking the adjustments .

Thanks again, Mike.

Yup, just clamped it down so I could run it up (without it trying to take off) to break in the motor and set the mixture etc. It worked great, first hover has perfect.

clamping a heli down is not a safe thing to do. The heli needs to be allowed to move around or it may develope a harmonic vibration which could rip the heli apart.

OK, well my Beginners Guide To Model Helicopters shows a test stand with a helo clamped to it and says it's recommended by Ray Hostsler's Helicopter Book(who ever he is), for doing adjustments while the blades are turning.

I know all about helo vibrations, I was an Army test pilot for 22 years. I did full throttle ground runs every day and they shook me so hard I could not read the instruments.

I did not completely prevent the helo from vibrating, just lifting off.

But (however), I am new to model helo's so I think I will listen to my Field Reps.

Thanks David, for the advice.

I agree with your methods. Your first input to this was "Yup, just clamped it down so I could run it up", giving me the impression the heli would be hard fixed to something immovable.
