Default v-6 again

Well people, As some of you know I couldn't wait for the backorderd vmax-7 motor so I bought a new v-6. First 7 tanks full of fuel and all was great. Then it happend again slowly lost power after warm up causeing me to have to adjust and readjust etc... I tryed this and that over and over. I then called litemachines and they had me try this and that again. Turns out my new v-6 is no good LOL go figure.. Oh by the way the new v-7's just came in so litmachines are going to swap me out. by the weekend I should be ok knock on wood.. Alan

I'm curious now...I wonder if this is my problem?My engine runs great the first minute or two but then slowly loses power to the point where I cant even lift off...so then I try adjusting the needle and it just ends up stalling out when I try and richen it up...Thought id been running lean,but it dosnt even make spit sizzle.I've only got about 6-8 tanks through this engine.Don't tell me i can't even learn to fly on one engine

well spdfrek,
When I talked to litemachine they told me that because these engines are fitted individually that you can easily get a bad one. Mine has 6-8 tank fulls thrue it and thats it all done. motor worn out. I bought it on friday. Well litemachine is going to send me a new vmax-7 and i only pay the difference very nice people. I should be flying on saturday. I got very frustrated to say the least. At first my new motor was GREAT tons of power climb rate was great just wonderful. Oh well the chopper is so durable I am not going to vent or even complain I do love this thing....Alan

hhmm....This sounds like a good possibility.Unfortunatly I didn't buy the engine new...The guy I got it from on ebay did.It had never been started when I got it.And after about the third tank it ran great....plenty of lift....Then the last tank and a half it just wont get off the ground once its warm...Just slides around on the ground Think theyd swap me an engine?I dunno....maybe I'm jumping ahead

the engines have a 1 year warrenty, give them a call, can't hurt right ? As the engine heats up it expands thus loosing compression and power. I found that I needed to turn in the needle valve a few clicks every minute or so to keep it flying, soon it would not lift, I tryed every thing I have read here plus what litemachines told me to try but it boild down to bad motor. Call them they can walk you thru a diagnostics. Good luck Alan

Well, Thats the Vmax6 blues....We who fly with the Vmax7 engine dont have those problems anymore. I was so fustrated with the Vmax6 at one time I almost shelved my Helicopter. Actually i did shelf it for about a month and a half. After I got the Vmax7, its been ear to ear grins. The best thing I like abot the Vmax7 is that i can run it rich and still have plenty of power to horse the heli around. For a short period this past spring, there was a batch of V7s that were defective but I think the manufacturer remedied this because havent heard anymore about wrist pin failures which resulted in a broken con rod. LiteMachines was stellar to work with the customers to get them a good V7 engine. As for me, Litemachines customer service is A-1.

hey darth, You said you were still using the altron gyro right ? litemachines said I may want an electric gyro because the v-7 has more torque what do you think.?? Alan

Actually the spare engine I had messed up a rod shortly after being started.I also found that the neddle assembly is loose.It actually came off the engine.So I'm wondering if thats what was going wrong.Is the v7 that much better.Honestly will I be able to just start it and run without worrys for a couple gallons?If its not gonna do it for me...I'd definatly have to consider making a crutch to fit a .12 car engine.I just dont wanna have to fly for 1.5 minutes and then stop again.So far I really enjoy the challenge of this hobby...But if I cant keep the thing running I may have to reconsider,cause I don't think theres any heli as durable as this out there

joey, they say the v-7 is the way to go, Darth loves his. I did order mine and should be here by the weekend. I too love this heli so the upgrade is the way to go. I had about 6 trouble free flights with my new v-6 but that was it I was back to adjusting it ever few minutes.. Alan

Vmax7 with arlton gyro(Darths take on it)

I have already told Litemachines that im still flying with my arlton gyro with my Vmax7 they did seem a little surprised.
Ive been having great success with the arlton gyro on my Heli. The only thing I done was add mabey a couple of degrees pitch to the gyro paddles.
Heres my observation, its basically the same as the Heli with the Vmax6. The Heli does want to weathervane like LMhs are known to want to do. Yes, There is more torque with the V7 and it can be noticable with extreme throttle controlling such as quickly and sharply reducing and increasing throttle but its not bad at all. The Gyro does its job pretty well. I do alot of yanking and banking, throttle changing and havent noticed anything that would be alarming. Most people do go to an electronic gyro(Im the only one that I know of that kept mine but Im sure Im not the only one). So, If anyone does decide to go with an electronic gyro, Ill be glad to take their mechanical (arlton) gyro off their hands.

Joey - Although I'll soon be fitting my new VMax-7 engine to my LMH, I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with fitting a car engine to yours. I took a look at some car engines a couple of weeks ago, just before ordering the V7. They look "very big" in comparison to the V6. Please post how you get on with fitting the car engine, clutch. etc - if you do try. If you can get it to work it might just be the answer to our "engine woes!" Then again, I have to wonder why the LMH wasn't designed around an existing car engine, there are so many of them to choose from too
