the washer was just about to explode
Well after all you advice I decided today after about 2 gallons of fuel through the engine to remove the washer. It would'nt have lasted one more tank YOU GUYS SAVED MY ENGINE! THANKS :-) On first inspection it looked ok but as son as I touched it with my fingers it fell off! The centre was flogged out and heaps of wear to the conrod side, it was not going to be long before it failed and destroying the engine...... ANYONE LEFT WHO HASNT REMOVED IT DO IT NOW! It WILL eventually fail! THANKS again to all who have posted previously about this manufacturing oversight.

That's exactly what I did. I took it out after about 2 gallons. There was a deep groove in it, and appeared as if it was just about to crack into 2 pieces. I caught it just in time.

just in time. fwew! glad you got to it before any serious damage occured. hopefully you gave the engine a nice douching with alchahol or something to clean out the washer leavins. it mat have thrown shavings everywhere.

yeas washed the engine to make sure. what i did notice when turning over the engine was the bottom 2mm of the skirt of the piston was polished, is this normal ????

hmm. i never looked at that. i have a brandnew spare mach in my box. i will tear the backplate off it tomorrow and look. i will try to post a pic of what i see.

i know it. that would bug me to. although i dont see how that could be a problem though. i dont think there would be a polished affect from shavings.

Ya that's normal, but I don't know why. Every piston I've seen has a different colored "ring" around the bottom 1 or 2 mm of the skirt. I don't know if it's part of the maching process or if it's caused by wear.

well my new engine has never been started. if its a wear thing it wont be there when i tear it apart. damnit,, now i want to tear the thing apart tonight. my wife will kill me though. when i get wrenchin im at it all night.lol. its addicting.

no worries. she knows full well if a salma hyack lookalike comes along with a nitro truck...... she's gone!.lol. she was mad enough when she heard what i dropped on this thing. im just glad the ability to lick the back of my own head comes in handy for other things.lol.
