Default Temp problem

The truck must have been run at least 1/2gallon. I put in a new plug and while running the 2nd tank yesterday the truck stopped. Coming closer to it i could see smoke coming from the cooling head and the glow plug was gone. The glow plug's bottom was also black.

This leads me to think the engine is running way too lean however the HSN is 3 1/2 turns and the LSN is set to 2 turns. This doesnt make any sense to me, i cant check temps because i dont have a temp reader but when spitting on the cooling head, it starts to evaporate viciously once it touches the cooling head.

I'm completly confused...im running an OS LC3 plug. If anyone could please help because i cant think of whats happening?

Thanks

Like I have said in the past, do NOT pay attention to the number of turns for the needle settings. The number of turns is ONLY A STARTING POINT!

Switch to a McCoy MC9 or Megatech Q-Series Offroad Plug. Both are cold plugs and will not cause your engine to detonate early. Destroyed plug coils and black plugs/piston tops do usually indicate hot/lean running conditions.

Once you get the new plug, Tune for peak RPM by richening your HSN (Counterclockwise). Turn in 1/8 increments. Make a highspeed pass on pavement. Then richen another 1/8 and repeat. If the rpms went up, repeat with another 1/8 and another run. Do this until you find the peak RPM that the engine will run. Then richen the mixture by 1/16 turn and go to work for a smooth idle and explosive acceleration by tuning your LSN.

Hope this helps you out.

I'd read from somwhere though that is running 25% or lower nitro (Im running 25% O'donnell) the mach prefers a hotter plug which is why i am using an OS LC3 (someone else uses them from LSTCentral and they seem to find its a great plug?). What i might do is use another LC3 which i have and see if i can richen it to a peak where the engine is ok. Reason is engine isnt fully broken in yet so its still running hot. Hopefully another 10tanks and it should cool down.

I always thought that 3 1/2 turns what be safe due to that being advised, never thought it could be too lean for my engine (each engine differs for each person). Time to get out there and start tuning and if same problem persists, il try at a colder plug. However when i was using it, i was going up some really steep hills in high gearing so therefore was pushing the truck much harder then i maybe should have...

Cheers for info

UPDATE

Rang up UK distributor and he said he's seen it where there is a funny needle which wont like running at 3 1/2 turns. He's advised me to run at 4 1/2turns and it should be fine and then if i can, lean it down. Apparently its a problem he's seen before and he also said the engine wasnt at all fussy with matter of glow plugs. If not he said it might be a blockage in the carb so if it doesnt sort itself out when im richening it, he's going to have a look at the carb for me

Man i love Team Losi's support, A*

I to am running an os8 plug and have so far found it very reliable, my engine is new and i have only run about 1/2 a gallon through it but i have a venom temp unit on board and its a great peice of gear i'm running with my hsn at 3 turns out and my lsn at 2 turns and it flys already and the temp stays at about 210, also i'm running at %20 nitro and %20 oil and all seems great (but the temp sensor is tops)!!
