RE: clutch bell to tight
i had this problem on my new engine
it turned out to be the little brass collet that the flywheel sits on
the one that came with the new engine was slightly longer than the one of my mach
changed it to the original one off the mach and not the new one and problem solved

Loctite, In my opinion , when you use loctite on something like this it's like using fixaflat. It's not the right thing to do but if there is no other way...

It was the brass collet on my new Picco .28 that caused this same problem.
Replaced with the stock Mach collet, worked like champ.

The only time you will have slop in the clutch bell(that will affect your mesh) is when your bearings are shot.
Side to side.... I tried shims but they wore down. IMO blue locite..tighten it till it does not spin freely then back it off a hair.

OK, I just got back from my LHS and YES, slop in bell is due to bad bearings Mine were shot. Now I purchased the shim kit. The LHS had to modify one of the shims with a dremel. However you just have to play with it, The shims that is. Nothing else to it. ON the down side of this, I plugged in my servo battery pack back words and POOF ,anyone have aJRrs300 receiver for sale? Just when I was ready to run my new truck, what's next???

Allright, so, my CB on my Mach .28 has some play side to side, like it moves in and out the crankshaft, about 2 to 3 mm, it doesn't seem to affect the truck in any way, but, is this normal? will it damage my clutch shoes? and Also is it normal when the engine is cold, I give it gas and it doesn't go at all, after a min or two, when it warms up, it's fine...

RE: clutch bell to tight
I installed an OS 30 VGR engine in my LST and with the stock flywheel I had to use the longer collet to clear the carb.
So here is what I did.
I installed washers behind the collet
Put on the collet and installed the flywheel and tightened down. Put on the clutch shoes.
Now comes the fun part. I couldn't get the shims right. So........
I put on 2 Traxxas teflon shims before the inner bearing.
Put on the clutchbell.
Put 2 bearings on the outside part of clutchbell.
Used OFNA shim kit which has a longer "T" shim.
Used additional teflon shims until I was able to adjust play.
Very little play. Spins freely. Aligns better now with transmission spur gears.

Shims don't wear out.
Bearings do.
Be careful with shims. You only want the shim to touch the inside metal ring of the bearing not inside and outside.
