RE: Engine Upgrade with most power?
I didn't like the Losi mod...there is room for error...IMO
if yuo don't line up the plastic backplate right and have it centered when you make your holes...your OW starter shaft will spin unevenly and put pressure on the internal OWB...although I have yet to do the HPI style one yet...it has been done...it looks alot better...and the holes are already there for you...IMO the better of the two..but you'll need the HPI rotostart wand...and possibly the handheld as well...I use a DeWalt battery operated drill on mine...
I don't like the Losi spin start system...it's too close to the header...and the wand likes to stick in the backplate...
just be warned...if/when you get one...it is super tight...and you can break it easily...pre-heat the engine with a hairdryer...and loosen the plug until it nearly falls out...when you first fire it up...

RE: Engine Upgrade with most power?
So end decision would be the Hot Mod NovaRossi 528XPS, the HPI .15 backplate, and one of the OS pipes/manifolds.....[8D]

Well I pretty much know which engine I am going with, I just need to know which OS pipe that Dawgbone was talking about because there were a few on that website.

no...it will not outrun a Novarossi XR...in fact...it was the biggest waste of my money in my entire RC exsperience...
[edit] well...next to the Revo I bought a couple of months before I drove my first LST..

RE: Engine Upgrade with most power?
ok obviously seeing you only have 9 post's you haven't figured out that the 30-32 engines are mostly hype and have bearing issues. so i suggest you read ALL the thread's on the 30-32 engines and see for yourself why most people are not running them. anything bigger than a 28 is a waste of money. bashing or racing it does not matter besides anything bigger than a 28 is not legal in racing.

DID YOU DRAG RACE Novarossi XR ENGINE 2 THE COLLARI .32 ENGINE
DID YOU DRAG RACE Novarossi XR ENGINE 2 THE COLLARI .32 ENGINE
I'll agree that the .32 engine's have insane TQ to hurl around a 13lbs truck...but lack top end...the nova lacks bottom end somewhat...but it'll rip harder...
I don't have any vid of the Collari...I gave it away nearly a gallon after breakin..when I got tired of try to make the exhaust not leak(yes..tried the Werks stuff)
and although it's not a good comparison...here's some vid of a modded SureFire .32...IMO was a better engine(8 port) than the Collari(3 port)...this is just some video I have...it truly isn't a good comparison...I need to get some better video of the Nova...

I have an N528XRS modded by Rick Brake. It has insane bottom end. It has insane top end... It has the widest powerband of any engine I have ever owned.

RE: Engine Upgrade with most power?
There are no problems with the Collari bearings. The undersized exhaust port could cause leaks. I have a .30 with the new updated oneway, the one with the oneway outside of the backplate with the bearing and it's a screaming beast. I have a .32 with the new one-way system also that has never been started. I'm keeping it for the day when .32 engines become race legal!! That being said a modded Novarossi has mucho topend and power, I would never bet against it!!!
I won the race with my Mach but not because I had a faster engine........ I drove them all the same day............
from left Mach .26 with Sportwerks carb and RDL pipe, Novarossi .28 8port HotMods,Collari, SH .28 on the basher in the back.

RE: Engine Upgrade with most power?
@Dawgbone - What else should I consider upgrading with this engine for better performance and everything. Like for example - do they make a better racing clutch? Am I going to have driveshaft problems? differential problems?
Also are those 260 temps good or is that too high?? I thought it was supposed to stay at 200-220.

RE: Engine Upgrade with most power?
it runs best at 230'ish...with slight power drop off at 260'ish....the Nova has been a different beast for me...I haven't figured out exactly why just yet...but it heats up fast and cools down even faster..I guess it's the heat sink....but it also has a tiny block for a .28...and I'm thinking that it has alot to do with it...
so far both my racer and basher are fairly stock drivetrain-wise...and things have held up pretty good...until the other day, it trashed my basher's tranny...I haven't tore it apart yet...but there is something definetly wrong inside it's tranny...
the only hop-ups that i can recommend is 8Man's pinions...I'm running +2's on my basher and +3's on my racer...and both still top out very quickly...
for the most low maintenance clutch...I would go with Nova shoes...and whatever springs you like...I just use stock LST2 springs...
Link: My Werks.. Clutch Setup...So Far...So Good
the Werks setup is cool because you can adjust it...but it is a pain...it grips pretty good..but does fade a bit when taxxing it with wheelies and hard driving...it seems to get super hot even without stall...I like it...but I haven't got to the point to where I can trust it...with traditional shoes or Novas(adjustable)...there is nothing to worry about...nothing to loctite...taking a flywheel off is a sinch...

Dawg: Are you running all 4 carbon shoes?? I always run 2 Rulon and 2 Carbon. I temp my bell in tall grass in my backyard and it does not get past 130F. Any slippage/fade/degradation would never work for me on the track.
