RE: upgraded engine
Stay away from the draked .30, I have one and as of this moment I wont ever buy another trinity product due to the way I was treated by trinity, and the fact that they would put out such a POS. If you really want one, I'll sell you mine for $100 and it has less than a half gallon of fuel through it. But really, you dont want it.
But I think if it was a .30 or bigger the axial or sure fire is the way to go.

RE: upgraded engine
is the LRP .28 spec 3 as powerful? i was looking for a lot of power that i can gear up or down to meet my needs due to the hight cost of motors i cant upgrade eccept when something is broken so id prefer to start with a better engine than i need.

RE: upgraded engine
.28 keeps the characteristics of the truck I think. the .30+ need to be geared differently to remain similair in the top end, and theyll still be low end engines.

RE: upgraded engine
what do you mean gearing is cheap but what do you mean by being low end engines arent the axials and os's made to have varrying powerbands

RE: upgraded engine
varying yes, but larger engines are generally associated with more low RPM torque vs high RPM. for acceleration this is good. for top end, 2nd gear racing around the track; not so useful.
gearing isnt too cheap; it is 30$ for a 8mans pinion.
not to say you wont need gearing anyway with most .28 motors.

RE: upgraded engine
Im going to get the lrp .28 spec 3.
fits my needs for a very attractive price.
if you want a big engine though; Im not saying anything wrong with them. they have their uses for sure.

RE: upgraded engine
I dont know, from what 2d is saying the spec 3 hits kinda hard, not that cant be tuned out with the "right" pipe. But I have the LRP spec 2 and I like the way the power is linear and not a sudden rush. But either or, spec 2 or spec 3 will hang with any of the .30's or .32's if not smoke them once the topend of things start kicking in.
That draked .30 I have is an absolute monster, for about 10 feet and its maxxed out....No topend what so ever. Its got so much bottom that I can pretty much power the front wheels up and down without the wheels ever hitting the ground again. But thats when it wants to run right.
I have to agree with bauerbach 100%, a .28 is a much better engine choice. The .32's are fun but you can really notice the lack of topend as there isnt any.
For $330 you could buy a spec 2 and a spec 3 almost, they are some of the best engines out there at the moment, easy to tune and plenty of power.

RE: upgraded engine
I agree with above...the 32's top out way too fast. I run the axial 32 with plus 2 pinions..it is respectable now, but with stock gearing it hits top speed immediately and falls flat. The gearing and a pipe change helped, but it is not a top speed engine. I also run the os30 in the lst2...that has better power throughout the power band then the axial 32 and better top end. Also, as I have found out recently, the right pipe can make a large difference in performance - especially on the bigger motors (to get some top end out of them). As far as best 28's go...nova like you said - lots of people seem to be running the lrp spec 2 and spec 3's and the picco 28's...

RE: upgraded engine
Im waiting on a axial 32. I dont race my LST i just go bashing so i bought the axial for the low end. and if i do race, its no probem their. Our track here is a medium size with tight turns so this engine meets the specs i need. The larger the engine the lower the max RPM's (generaly). More weight to sling around ya know. The thing to keep in mind about buying a new engine is (if you race) is type of track you run on.
