Which shipping company?
Hey guys. We are trying to gather information on which shipping provider you like better and why. We currently offer either UPS or USPS. Could you give us your opinions on this please? UPS is offering us some major discounts that we can pass on to our customers if we go with them as our only provider. Thanks.

I've used both methods and I honestly don't have a favourite. I find USPS has very limited tracking and UPS is much better in this area. Since you could get a discount with UPS i'd vote for them.

I have my packages sent to work, and with a non-residential destination I have always gotten quicker and better service from UPS. Also, the USPS people just stick the packages in the mailbox and drive off, the UPS guy actually delivers stuff straight to my desk. I've had boxes of expensive RC parts sit in the mailbox overnight because they delivered late in the day and I had no notification it was there.

usps seems to be a little quicker, but they drop at my door rain or shine. the ups man goes to the
trouble of taking the package around back to my shop, under roof out of the weather. the extra
service goes a long ways.

RE: Which shipping company?
For me, USPS is the better choice. They are quicker by days in some cases and offer free shipping supplies for sending priority mail shipments. For me it is by far the cheaper way to go as well, but I agree that you get less service.
HOWEVER.
I am residential and every time a package comes from UPS I am not at home to accept it. In most cases they won't leave it near my door or with my niebor, so they leave the dreaded "notice". I already waited a week to get the package to my door, and now you are telling me that I can't get it for another day? And don't try to get UPS to have a driver come back after he has left. In my area, they refused many times. And picking up the package if it's on a weekend, requires me to go 30 miles away.
My post office is only about 30 blocks.
Also they seem to be getting better with the whole customer service thing and tracking for shipments (tracking must be purchased) is just as good as UPS for me.
In all,
I think UPS has a corporate "plan" to make themselves a lot of money and the cost savings they are offering to you might just be a hidden agenda to lock you in and then when you are stuck with them, they raise your rates. They might also try to make it hard and expensive for you to change back to a more "economy improving" solution in the future. By just sticking with the good OLD USPS (that was started by one of teh smartest people who ever lived and has been running fine for over 100 years), you keep your options for your customers open to suit both needs.
Just my 2 cents...

RE: Which shipping company?
I voted usps because they are the primary mail carrier in this country. If we neglect to use thier services our costs will go up significantly. They employ full time workers and provide those workers with decent benefits, and a pension to compensate them for thier years of service. UPS on the other hand fills thier warehouse with part-time employees that do not get benefits or a pension plan. [:'(]
My mail man (Kevin) will put things by my back door or under the overhang of my garage in my back yard if i'm not home to recieve the package. To show him that i appreciate his services, at christmas time we give him a $20 - $50 visa gift card. I've done that for 2 years now and wish i would have done it sooner.
Well thats my .02[8D]

In all seriousness it is so easy to log onto the USPS site and order free flat rate priority mail boxes, whatever you can fit in them you know it will be a flat fee to ship. You can print your postage and schedule a pickup. I like the way their website works.
Please don't go postal on me!!!!!!!
