RE: savage?
One the Savage. All of them are basically the same. With each new modle they upgraded something. Even within models newer ones often had mmore/better upgrades. For example, My Savage 25 SS came with 2 gear diffs and shortly after I bought mine HPI started including 4 gear diffs with it. The whole Savage line is littered with stuff like that, up to and including the new "X". The X SS has newer/better parts than the RTR X.
So to answer your Savage question. I cannot say for 100% sure but I'd bet the 25 has upgrades that the 21 never had.
Don't know about the Muggy, sorry.

Also depends if it's the old, original Savage 21, or the new Savage 3.5 - which is %100 identical to the 25 RTR except no rotostart(inlcuding 4-sypders..) - and the color - cuz it's blue.. The latter may only be available in Europe though.
Given that you're in the US, because the 21's are so old, I would guess there's basically NO telling what you're getting..

No HPI has already come out with the "Classic 3.5" version, and it was only for foreign markets. You are more than likely getting a Savage 21... the original Savage. Both of them are now discontinued in all markets.
The two biggest things to mod first are the diffs and steering. The 21 and the early 25s had the older servo mounted saver setup. You will want to swap in the newer cam type servo saver for better steering. The diffs only have two spider gears stock where the newer one have four. I would skip the common four spider mod and jump stright to a set of X SS diffs. The aluminum cups and hardened gears are MUCH better than previous HPI offerings. Nova cups and a Hot Bodies gearsets are just as good or better though.
Get it and then post some pics in the HPI forum. We'll get you sorted out.

RE: savage?
Here are a few more things you will need to consider when going back to a Savage 21-
Savage 21 has a pretty weak 2 shoe clutch (25 and SS went to 3 shoe)
Savage 21 has the worst ever steering setup (Cam style 1/8 buggy steering didn't add until 25/SS)
Savage 21 has the 2 spider gear diffs
Savage 21 has the weakest dogbones ever (no kidding; You will have HD dogbones within the first few runs)
Savage 21 has a primer on the gas tank that was prone to causing erratic and lean tank conditions (25/SS tanks primerless)
I would be hesitant to buy a Savage 21, because by the time you get it up to Savage 25/SS Specs, you will more then likely
be into it for the price of a decent used 25/SS. I would only get into the Savage 21 if it was a screaming deal- like $75-100;
even then when you get it updated, you will be into it over $200.

RE: savage?
What kind of engine is that? It already has the newer primer-less tank, so what else has been done to it?
You are planning on trading a Mini T, an RC18B, AND a MLST for it? What kind of shape are they in?

RE: savage?
Looks like the original 21.. The truck - at least in that one pic - LOOKS to be in decent shape..
Thing about it is though, it'd probably be OK if you leave it as is, but if you end up wanting to put a bigger engine into it, well, you've got a lot to do.. By the time you got everything sensible you'd need, well, you'd be better off just buying an X SS roller right off the bat.. All that said, I anyway would go against the grain and just say that as is it'd probably be a reasonably fun beater truck - if nothing spectacular..
Just my .02..

That's exactly right, it's not worth it, unless at a minimum, the dogbones, and diff's are already upgraded. BTW the cam type servo saver came on the 4.6 SS originally, then later the 25 rtr was upgraded to it (they put it in the box for you to install)
