Default Hovering Funtana

Can I hover a H9 Funtana on an 0.S. .25 LA that I have lying around here or is it too much engine? Thanks!

Not enough by a long way. The guys are questioning even the 2S .46 and the 4S .72, so a bushing .25 falls way short.

I think having that heavy of an engine up front will just make the plane fly like crap. Way too heavy. You may also have to use 0% nitro or it may pull the wings off at full throttle. If you could find a 12 X 1/2 prop it might pull it without too much speed.

Good luck, and remember with this much power it would be best to use 1/4 scale servo's at a minimum so the surfaces don't flutter with all the speed you will have.

Yeah! A .25 LA will be plenty to hover your Funtana!

Of course, if you're gonna bolt the wings on and put some radio gear in it you may need a bit more...

so the 25 is too much? I am on a low budget so how about i cut the engine in half, and only use half of it? The power will be as a 12.5 LA, so would that be enough? Do they even make 0% nitro fuel? could i save weight if i dont use radio gear? Thanks!

It may still be too much engine. Why don't you try a Cox .049 at half throttle?

Do you have this plane? http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/prod...p?prod=HAN1975
If so then that wont be near enough engine for that plane.

Hanger 9 states;
Recommended Engine Size: .32-.46 (2-stroke)
so as long as you use atleast 30% nitro to make up for the lost cubes of the min. .32 size engine it should hover all day long at just a few clicks over idle

I have a rubber band you could borrow.

Theve even thoughtfully cut a hole in the fire wall and put a brace accross the back of the wing seat.

I found this set up really good, and cheap to run, but Ihad to add a lot of lead to the nose to ballance and I'm very concerned about the loadings on the wing.

If your areal hot dog you could use 2 bands together, easier that reboring a glow motor.

Be carefull with that .10 even... I put a tuned pipe on mine and this is what happened when I nailed it to pull out of a hover. The front half of the fuse shot straight up and everthing else dropped right to the runway, luckily the gear stays on the front half, so I was able to land it safely. Now I just have to glue them back together and reinforce everything with kevlar/carbon to safely use such a powerfull mill.

isnt this a fairly large plane? I dont get this little tiny engines can make this big plane hover? wouldnt it need the required .32-.40? there was a guy earlyer that said a .25 ripped the plane in half. what would a .40 do to the plane?

I shutter to think what a .40 would do on this plane. I just chews me up that people have to overpower model airplanes. They should have the same power level as real airplanes and be flown with some finesse. Real airplanes don't hover-thats helicopters.

OK, I've heard enough of this nonsense. For goodness sake! Before somebody gets hurt or dead. I'm writing to the AMA to lobby for a NEW RULE to ban all engines from RC model aircraft. It is just too dangerous.... We need to think about the children! Oh the humanity!

you could fly it by thought alone, but you will have to practice.

im flying my funtana on a fp 20, its ballistic.
dont bother with the 25 la, it will rip it to bits. you wont go above half throttle anyways with that powerhouse.

i dont know whats funnier, the concept of this thread or the clueless ones that think this guy is being serious!!!!

Thanks for the tip. I have a spare 25 LA, and I was wondering if it would go in the 2metre Funtana or not. I'd go with the APC 10x3 prop.

Will it balance OK with this set up? Or should I put all of the radio gear in the tail, not just the elevator servos?

I'm running a 25LA in my 2m Funtana. It runs the auxiliary power generator to ensure there is enough power available to energize the flux capacitor. Without this setup I struggled to get the plane above mach 0.87 when below 32,000 feet. It still won't hover though. Am i doing something wrong?

You don't need to weigh the plane down by adding the elevator or rudder servos. Since all you want to do is hover, just glue the the control surfaces into the proper position. You only need the servos if you are going to try to loop or land.

take care

I do occasionally like to loop and land. I was therefore going to use those little WES Tec micro servos. You know the ones that weigh about 2 grams, and have 100 grams of pull on them. Or do you think this is overkill?

does he think you guys are really serios? HAHA i heard that a guy was flying with an .010 and it could rocket out of a hover but i think that he modified the fuse first to weigh it down a bit
