Just received my MRAerodesign PC6 and the Laser Lizard short kit. I had a very brief look in both and so far everything looks very good. Several sheets of plans (very detailed - including ALL the templates), the laser cut parts appear excellent, huge fibreglass cowl (with scale exhaust ports on both sides) and a surprisingly sturdy vacu formed canopy. The manual is very basic with no explanations but the plan details combined with the "plug and play" type parts should make building fairly reasonable. There is also a very detailed plan for a scale aluminum landing gear setup.

The only thing missing Martin is a detailed list of materials still required (ie - how many 36" X 1/4" X 1/4" balsa sticks needed etc) like you have for your Beaver (so that I dont have to add it all up )

I am looking forward to building this and will post pics as I go but I have to finish my A7 Corsair first.

Please keep us posted. I am waiting to finish my new building shed (working on it on weekends and taking a lot longer than I thought) so I will have enough room to build one. What power plant are you considering? If you haven't already, check out [link]http://www.pc-6.com[/link] for pictures of PC6's form all over the world. This will give lots of ideas for a color scheme.

Thanks Vicar. I have been looking at pc6.com for a color scheme. Lots to choose from. I am thinking about a ST3250 for power but some people are still giving me the ins and outs of a gasser (never used one before).

nice Porter! Wish someone made a large PC-9. [&o]

Mine is powered by an old OS 120 Surpass II which gives it plenty of power for the standard loops and rolls. I am seriously considering replacing the OS with an RCV 120, the one that is cone shaped which will fit competely in the cowl. I hate seen the engine head sticking out the bottom-front of the cowl as you can see from the picture below.

whats the wingspan and weight of your bird Vicar. Maybe I dont need something as big as a 3250.

My Porter is 98" WS and weights 12+ pounds. Martin suggests an ST 3000 so you can go a little smaller but at 120" an OS 120 like mine will definitely not be enough.

In your original post you made reference to the Beaver. Did you build one of Martin's? Can you post some pictures and details?

I didnt build one of Martins Beavers but he has a required materials list on his website for the Beaver which is what I was making reference to. If I didnt already have my 8ft Unionville Beaver I would consider his.

Sorry to break you fun TKS1 but this list are for the first version of the PC-6 plan.. I completly redesign this aircraft 6 months ago. So the bill of material are nearly the same but not exactly..
If I can find some sparetime, I will make the list like the one of my Beaver.

G'day tks1 . If you are still around the forum i was just wondering what method you used to cover you Aerodesign PC-6. ? I have mine under way but just not shure on waht way to go with covering ?? ie . plastic covering. 3/4oz cloth and paint ?

Wow. Havent been here in ages. It reminded me that I was supposed to come up with some old RCMP otter pics for someone on the board who is building one. Whoever you were I apologize but I havent found anything other than what is on the internet.

Mine isnt done unfortunately due to some other things coming up that have kept me away from building for a LONG time - I havent decided on what to cover mine in yet. I was going to wait until I got closer towards the end and see what we are weighing in at. If it is really lite I was contemplating cloth but in the end I will likely go with something not so heavy.

What are you powering yours with - radio setup - batteries - hinges etc.

If you could keep updates in this post would be great. I will eventually get mine done but have just been busy trying to keep up with other stuff.

Thanks for replying tks1, I have only just statred my Turbo . built the Fin/Rudder and Horizontal Stabiliser. I will be Powering mine with a 3W70i yess a little over the top in the poewer dept but i whish to do some Aerotowing with the Turbo, Hinges will be as per the design on the plan, not shure how many servos yet but i have a few 15kg jr servos that i will be using. there is still a lot to do yet. i will post a few pics when i get a chance.

I got my MR Aerodesigns Porter last year and started on it in May, made pretty good progress on it so far just in the final stages of closing up the wings, had to install hard points for the extended range fuel tanks (dumby) or the skydiver drop unit. Anyway, going to power it with the Revolution 52 because of the long snout the motor has, will fit nicely into the cowl, also using a KS canister muffler in side the fuse to keep it quite, but haven't gotten to that stage yet. Also planing on using it for Aerotowing, won't be a rocketship but it should look good going up at scale speeds (50 mph is about the right speed anyway). Also going to use an Eagletree flight telemery system to monitor airspeed and altitude ( they're working on voice anucianation feature now).

That is awesome. Mine is still in the "holding pattern" but hopefully I will get back into it early next spring when things slow down a little. All I have completed on mine is the tail surfaces (and they arent totally done yet).

Looks great - I look forward to seeing the finished product. What are you finishing your bird with?

I'm finishing mine with 3/4 oz glass cloth and West Systems epoxy. I'm also making my stab unit detachable to ease transport in my minivan. I also have to fit in my 1/3 scale Ventus 2ax inside. The tail on the Porter is 40+ inches wide. Here's a pic of what I hope the finished product will look like - from FDS international ( microsoft flight sim add on).
