In regards to lipo charging.I have had my mono for 4 mo. now with over 100 charges. Every charge was after I ran the batteries all the way down, then charge it. I still works great even with jet rx and motors with the original lipo and lights of course. I think I'm old school when it comes to charging batteries , you drain then you charge.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with being "old school". Just don't drain the new school LiPo's below 2.67v and you'll be all set. On the other hand, they don't have memory so there is no need to drain them as much as you can before charging. In other words, if you fly for 5 minutes and want to put it on the charger to be fully ready for your next flight, it won't hurt anything or shorten your battery life.

On LiPo and 105° temp. note, overheating a LiPo can shorten it's lifespan.

at 5:30am this morning, Minneapolis was the warmest major city in the US at almost 90 degrees. its now over 100 (heat index around 110). nice and thick too with humidity in the mid 60% talk about over heating a lipo...

jaskel, send me some snow in the mail - i'll pay the shipping

Yeah, LiPo's aren't supposed to be trickle charged anyway. I'm not sure about this charger, but some do keep checking to see if a charge can be taken. In reality, it's just the topping off stage of LiPo charging. I've had cases where a customer's (supposedly fully charged) battery wouldn't last long in flight. But, leaving the battery connected to the charger for 5 or 6 hours cured it and the battery continued to charge fine and run normally afterward.

Briefly - LiPo used a complex charging method know as cc/cv (constant current/constant voltage). The cc stage is actually pretty fast. The cv stage takes quite a bit longer. The max. charge or 4.2v can be reached quickly, but stopping the there could mean the battery only has about 70% full charge. The cc stage may last until the rate drops below .03C. That may be 4.1v, for example, then it's switched to cv which charges the battery with close tolerances (+ or - 50mv) to a full charge of 4.2 or 4.22v (whichever is specified in that charger). This is a slow stage so the battery won't overheat.

For our AA purposes, charge until the light goes out and you'll be all set. If your battery doesn't seem to hold a charge as well as it should, and it's not real old (like 250 charge cycles), you could try leaving it on the charger for 5 or 6 hours and see if it helps. The charger may rest of a couple of hours and then resume the topping off stage.

Here are triplane pics. It's just too heavy. Pic's are dated 5-26. There might be more info there.

Has anyone angled the winglets down?

As soon as I sent that question, I wondered why. I knew that I would have to try it myself. It appears to be workable. If the angle is to extreme the plane won't climb well. But, if you hit in the happy medium, the plane doesn't kite as much. And, for you pylon racers, turns flatter. Here are some pics. I did straighten out the angle to ensure it wasn't just wind conditions. The plane kited.

Hi all, I have to tell you that every mod I've done lately had a tail. The reason I'm bringing this up is I just tried to fly a mod'ed plane w/o a tail and it didn't fly well. In dead air, my mods still seem to require the tail to be lower than the wing. I thought that I was just battling the wind. So in dead air an 18" SILK ribbon will do the job. For clothe and nylon ribbon I would guess around 12", maybe less. Tim

Flight report for my "AA-AK Seaplane": Flew pretty good even with a really dead battery in the plane. Required full up elevator and full throttle to keep it level (with dead battery). Water performance was awesome, no way she could take off, but it sure went pretty fast and turned great. I'm going to try to land it in some "real" water AKA a lake either tonight or tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Micro Builder, I have to agree with you on the HOT weather in the land of over 15,000 lakes. I was there over the weekend and it was flipen HOT. It reminded me of the summer of '95. Just wait a couple of months and you will have all the snow that you need. Hopefully more than the last few years anyway! I moved to Dayton 5 years ago from Chaska. Originally from Burnsville.

Is it just me or can't anyone eles wait for the storm Launcher? I just found out that the storm launcher is NOT the only Hydrofoam out there, I saw a vid of one with only one prop in the front center on this site. I must do more research now to make sure I get the right one. Any info would be great.

djstinger, if i am right. the guy that made the hydrofoam is the guy who sold his (the where 2 actualy to design the storm launcher) idea for the storm launcher at air hogs.

if you do some reseach in the storm launcher thread (you we will find him).

what i told you.... i saw an add on this site for the storm launcher + batt for 79.99$.... the pre release was 99$, and i think it was without the battery...

I must've seen about half a dozen out there so far.
Most are pretty pricey. You can find them in RC plane magazines for
sale or do a web search.

I think you get them ( Storm Launcher ) at any of the major retail stores. If any is interested I have some pics of my fleet and mono + other toys in my photo gallery. I am not sure how to post them yet. I'll have to bake a few pages to find that post.

UAV pilot was one of the people that helped design the storm launcher. The other person was Michael Connally.
