Whobbies Team Pro or Magnum 57 or Manta Ray?
HEy guys, while I am still trying to sell my other rc stuff to buy a whobbies boat, I still can't decide which one I want. Please chime in with suggestions. Thanks, Frog.

RE: Whobbies Team Pro or Magnum 57 or Manta Ray?
All 3 will make great Play Boats. I have owned a Magnum 57 and a Man Of War, but sold them. My buddy has a Team Pro and he still has his. They are well built sturdy hulls but a little too heavy. There are better hull choices out there in my opinion. They will all perform about the same so I would choose which one that YOU like the best. They can only handle so much speed and power before any of the Hulls will be over powered.
Good Luck

To answer the question instead of trying to lead the thread in another direction...
I would say check out the Manta Ray.

I think it depends on your prefference and what kind of conditions you will be running in. If you plan to run a BIG lake with lots of chop the magnum 57 is the way to go. The Manta ray is good compromise between the two. I like the Magnum myself, but the manta ray is nice also. check out this review of the mantaray http://www.rcboatmodeler.com/reviews/mantaray.asp

I will ask the question nobody else did.
What do you want to do with the boat ?
If you want to play, then either one will do depending on your money.
If you want to play, and then maybe race, then you need to look at a different manufacturer.
Check out Jims RC boat dock for better info if you want to race.
For play, WHH or Bonzi produce nice hulls. I am partial to Bonzi, but their hulls are stronger and heavier than WHH.

I want to run this boat in 6" chop on a big lake, lake Mead. I want to have fast boat and my budget is limited to whobbies. I like the bonzi 84" apache and that's what I'd get if I had the money. I don't want or need to race, just would like to have a fast boat.

6 inch chop! You gotta go with the Magnum 57. Thats what it was made for, it is a rough water boat. If you have other questions tony at whh always responds to emails within a few days. He can help you determine which boat is for you. However I know his answer will be the Magnum 57.
It is a great boat if you plan to run in rough water.

Now after I sell my savage and century heli, then I would have enough in my rc budget for the Magnum 57, but if I save a little longer, I can get what just came to mind today, the Bonzi Sports 64" Fountain which is even bigger and probably faster thanks to the hull design. What do you think?

Sounds to me you that you are not sure about things.
You cannot have FAST and 6" chop without spending some bucks here.
The hulls you are looking at are heavy and need some power to get them moving.
Once again, go visit the site I told you above and read around.
It will help you decide what you want do.

The larger the boat the more weight and the more wetted surface you will have which in turn will require MORE Power to make it go faster. The larger the hull, the slower it will be. The current LS27 Mono Record is around 75 mph with an M&D Zenoah powered 39" AC Model Boats Lazer. The XLS36 Record is with a 45" AC Razor Mono with an engine that was designed for 55"-65" Hulls.
I also like to jump wakes off the back of my 27' Cruiser. I have found the larger the Hull the easier it is to stuff one in a wave. The AC Lazer 45" is a great boat in rough water and just as much fun to jump waves with. The bad thing is that in really calm water it's about 5 mph slower then when it runs in some good chop. I also had a ball with a 43" AC Wild Thing jumping waves and playing in the BIG Water. I disagree with Harvick. I myself would rather have a Team Pro then a Magnum 57 in some good chop to play around with.
Good Luck

Does AC Model boats make them rtr at all? I also would like to look at the Expresscraft MTI cat with a Zenoah 260. How do you think that would handle chop? Remember, the MTI cat is 60" long.

Andy at AC Model Boats used to do RTR Boats but he is a one man show and really doesn't have time to do them anymore. I was doing them for him for awhile but I am booked about 1 year in advance right now, sorry.

Deep Vee or a Mono Hull will always do better then a Cat in real rough stuff.
The 60" Cat is probably a really nice Cat too.
You really need to think about what you want from your new boat. Go to a Local Club and talk to the guys there and maybe they can help you decide.

The thing is, there are no local clubs around me, and I keep thinking to my self, why are there so many boat clubs back east?
I am pretty sure now that I am going to get the Team pro.

The Magnum 57
If you have big water, we have the boat to tame it... The Magnum 57 is 57 inches of pure wave pounding excitement. You will not believe the response and speed that you will get when you pull the trigger from a boat of this "magnumtude"! The Magnum 57 is at home in choppy water conditions while other boats would be forced to stay on shore. So if you have the conditions and need the remedy the Magnum 57 should be in your fleet.

The Team Pro
The Team Pro, what can we say, our classic design that has become on of the most famous gasoline model boats dating back to 1987. The TP is 46 inches
of wave crashing excitement with out of the box speeds in the mid 40's mph range. The Team is great in calm and moderate water conditions, and eventhough it is only four feet in length it is perfect for small lakes and ponds. But don't let its size fool you, with a good throttle man the TP is capable of tackling rougher conditions. The detailed hatch cover will seat two 1/8" scale racing figures and detailed dash accessories can be added for the scale finishing touch.

Who makes the 57" Team Strike hull rtr? I think it's rcoffshore or something similar. Ok, I remember, offshoremodels.com, I just went there but the site is done and last time I called the guy to inquire about his boats, he said he was barely making them anymore. Do you know if he's done for good or whrere I can find a 57" Team strike rtr? Thanks, Frog.
P.S. Is the 70" Apache hull from Expresscraft a good one?

I thought it over and because I'm looking for speed and on a limited to budget that has been set aside, I figure that plan A is Magnum 57 for your reasons about my big water problems, then plan B is Super G. That way I can save from the cheapness of buying the SUper G and take the left over money for putting into the boat such as props, tuned pipe, carbys, and maybe modding by Fast Rat.
