Default MTM Brake Retro-fit to a Geni LE UPDATE!!!!

So I bought the GSS11 MTM brake kit and I am going to fit it to my Genesis LE. Included in the kit are the following parts:

GS249 Brake Bracket * 2
GS213 Brake Cam Shaft II * 2
G36501 Tapping Flange Screw 3by14
GS210 Brake Shoe * 2
GS212 Brake Cam Brace
GS223 Rubber Damper
GS209 Tranny Gear Box II
Two misc. aluminum bushings

I got this from Custom RC Cars for $24.99. Here is the link: http://www.customrccars.com/product_...at=21&custom=0

Does anyone know of a downloadable manual for the Nemesis (including a detailed exploded view similar to what came with the Genesis)? Everything looks pretty straightforward but the engineer in me still wants to see some documentation. I checked CEN's website and they did not have an exploded view of the Nemesis that I could find. If someone could even scan in the pertinent pages that would be a great help.

Also, could someone take a pic of the brake disc on the Nemesis? The kit did not include any kind of disks. I wonder if I am supposed to use the disks that came with my Genesis?

Here is a pic of all the parts:

Could you provide a link for the download? Maybe I am just not seeing it but I can't find it anywhere on your website.

Also, in the pic provided I have two further questions:

1. What are the aluminum bushings that came in the bag (see pic) used for? The were loose in the GSS11 bag, no part numbers, etc.

2. Am I going to be able to keep reverse with the GS209?

Thanks,

Joe

The aluminum bushing is to go on the transmission case to support the main diff. bearing. The transmission case is changed to work with MTM brake system. The 3rd speed / reverse will work with GS209.

MTM brake system is the Metal-to-Metal brake system CEN developed for the Nemesis. Apparently it got a 10 out of 10 at several mag reviews. It's just a stronger more consistent brake set up and front to rear braking bias can be adjusted from what I understang. I don't have it on yet. My last few parts will be here Tuesday then I can reassemble my truck. I'll give my impressions when I am done. I am a total newb so I may not be able to evaluate it fully but I will be able to see if it brakes better than the stock set up.

No idea on the shocks...

I put the Integy piggy back shocks made for the Savage on my Gen. In my opinion they work much smoother. You see the suspension responding much more accurately. I also have triple rate springs on also which helps even more.

How much mods did you have to do on the shocks? I would definitely want to do the MTM brakes on mine, that is one thing that is lacking on my LE. Just got it a couple of weeks ago and keep breaking it? Newbie trying to not hit curbs. Going out today and tomorrow.

Is there a way to adjust the braking on the LE. Thought you might be able to do it with the airtornics settings but haven't found it yet.

I wonder if it is easier to just put a preassembled nemesis tranny in the thing and the reverse kit. I have already broken the shift lever on the LE but the new one seems to be working good. Need to find someone to fab an alum shift lever for it.... or just go with the new and improved tranny.

You can adjust the braking thru the radio and/or adjsting the collars on the linkage. It still offers only so much breaking power. For me I wanted to keep my 3rd gear and reverse so I didn't want to drop in a Nemesis tranny. Besides, this kit only cost my $25. A new Nemesis tranny is something like $80 on eBay.

I just finished working out all the little bugs with my truck and started doing some runs. These brakes are AWESOME!!! I can easily flip the truck on its nose when I hit them. I still have some fine-tuning to do with regards to the servo linkage setup. I don't like how that is working yet.

Overall here is a list of things I did (I previously had about 3/4 gallon thru the truck):

MTM brake kit
10K diff fluid in front
Locked Center
30 K diff in rear
Tightened my servo saver down to 5.25 mm
Complete disassembly and cleaning of entire truck
High Temp Gasket for backing plate, carb, and exhaust housing
Removed X10 shock, both front and rear
Dropped body as low as it would go (dropped roll over bar as well, still just tall enough to protect the engine in a roll over)

I am very pleased the performance of the truck overall. The locked diff is crazy. Gotta be careful of the throttle otherwise you'll wheelie over. My torque steer is better although it's not as good as I would like it yet. My next step is a new servo (JR or Hitec). I am also not impressed with my turning radius under power. I go real wide. It does turn a lot better than it did with the factory grease in the diffs but it's not that great yet.

Same here, diff fluid is in already but I haven't had ANY time to run it in a week. [:@] Guess it would be a good time to install the brake kit. Just for clarification.... your list was complete for the conversion? I also would like to retain 3rd gear and reverse.

Now if only I could get some time off work for some quality bashing................

If you buy GSS11 it comes with all the parts necessary for the conversion and I kept 3rd and reverse. It's actually a pretty good deal to buy it as a kit vs. individual parts because the kit cost $25 and if you priced out all the individual parts I'm sure it would cost close to $35.

Ok, I have discovered that the Nemesis throttle/brake linkage is different. This was causing me some problems setting up servo to get full stroke on the throttle but still have maximum leverage on the brakes. This linkage will solve that problem. I got it for $6.99 off eBay and I don't have a part number.

Stock Genesis on the left:

Close up of Nemesis linkage. The main difference being the 2 linkages for the front/read:

My brake kit is on the way, probably won't get it till late next week so good heads up on the linkage, I might be able to get one while I wait for the kit.

Now if I could talk my friends into enduring the cold weather and run their rc's An lst, and two revo's......

Well the brake kit is on, it was a major difference the truck flipped over first time I touched em too much front bias! Once adjusted they were great, I ended up just making my own linkage for now out of spring steel music wire. Between the brakes and the diff fluid the truck has become much more predictable.

How tight should the screws be in the rubber mounting supports in the brake unit? I just snugged them up but not crush it correct? Manual was not very specific......

I called and asked CEN the same question. I told them I had about 2 mm of space underneith the head of the screws. They said that's fine. In some of the pictures I've tracked down it looks like the screw is nearly tight and you can only see a little bit of the rubber space. So I don't know what is correct.

JPKII,
Can you provide me with the ebay link that you purchased the Nemesis throttle/brake linkage from as I have not been able to find one yet.
Thanks.

JPKII,

I have included a picture from the link that you gave me, it looks like it's the genesis linkage.
Am I correct in saying that this is the wrong linkage and that the nemesis linkage that I need has 2 linkages for the brakes, one for the front and one for the rear?
Thanks for your help.
