Hi Gang
I didn't see a build thread for the 3.3 so I thought I'd share some info to date.
Stabs
The Stabs turned out well I was able to bolt the four JR8611 right into there mounting position however to setup the linkages it requires to build them outside then remove the hardware. Bolt in the servo plates and recheck your servo throws in case something got shifted.
The Match box was interesting I elected to make this very usable and Silicon it in the Stab opening completely out of the way and it's Vibration damped.
Heres a good one.
A fellow I was talking to asked me if I was going to balance the Stab. I told him it was aerodynamically balanced. He and I talked some more and having done this to several other planes decided he might be right.
To balance the stab is not the goal but just to give the Hammer area a bit more weight for and loading problems.
Then I spoke with a CARF Rep and he advised me that 3/4 of an ounce is all thats needed.
Any of U Guys doing this on any of Ur Yaks?

I have been using yours as a reference if I have questions. This morning I finished one Wing don't you just hate having to remove those servos if U miss something in alignment.
Take a Peak at this..........
Do you still have the Yak?

Ailerons Linkages finished today..........
I elected as usual to throw away the regular hardware and use SWB servo arms. Coupled with Titanium rods. This looks like it will end my surplus stock of RocketCity hardware.
The JR Matchbox which is new to me as I am a Futuba Guy it's functions are identical to the Futuba MSA 10.
John did U add weight into the Stabs by the Hammers?

Yeah it's a bit addicting isn't it. The ZDZ is a 210 Andy kane Edition fresh out of the box.
I have a Jet Ur going to love it won't be ready for a while but it's a Blackbird..........
Darcy
I was constantly watching U and that new Toy ur finishing thought I'd jump in on one.
Mine is similar to the Fantasy Yellow and Red scheme from the Super Xtra tomorrow I am going to Checkerboard the cowling. Where do U think I got the idea?
All kidding aside U doing OK?

Even though this is a custom finished one I am not happy with the amount of Yellow on the front. To fix this I am going to checkerboard the Cowling with 2.75!QUOT! checkers.
I think that's what the machine is missing. It's so darn big I haven't even put it together yet just pieces.
The Wings are over 6 feet with the Spar a handful to move around and not whack them into something.
I did bolt the wheels on her this morning and am now working on the rudder. Trying to decide if the Seiko or the 4 JR 8611 are the way to go.

Guy's
Here is the Fuselage finally out in the open now that I have wheels for her.
Still need to install the Tail wheel to have a complete rolling Airframe.
The Cap 580 is the 33% Great Plane one for size comparison. The wings were to hard to put on with a 15 mph breeze blowing.
For those of U not familiar imagine a 5 Gallon Bucket that is the size of the front.
Looking for Opinions on Rudder servos either JR 8611 * 4 or a Single Seiko Servo?????

I am running 3 8611s and there is no problem what so ever! It will do a knife edge loop without a hint of rudder inadequacy or rudder stalling. The Yak was originally designed with 8411's which are not nearly as strong as an 8611. 3 are plenty.
As for the Seiko setup....I know of a few guys using it but I prefer to go with the 8611 or the Futaba 9152 (which is what I would use next time due to it's larger gear train).

The things I am contemplating are the aluminum rods in the elevators for Carbon, Control hing pieces rudder and elevator.
Servos are 14 JR 8611a / 2 HitTec HS 5245MG for Throttle and Choke.
5 JR Match Boxes
2 Fromeco 4800 Peerless and 1 2400 LithIon 3 Regulators with Pin switch's.
Futuba 5014 G3 Dual Receivers or 1024PCM ??
Wheels are going to be made custom and hopefully as light as Karvan Tail wheel as well.
There will also be a Virtual Cockpit and Helmet head Pilot.
Fuel Tank Jet Tech Carbon/Kevlar or BB 64 or a 50 oz Du bro.
I am going to start adding this all up and see how the weight is doing.

Quick Update
Over the past few days I have been building servo plates tonight I bolted them into the Wings.
There are several steps to watch out for.
1. After Servo Tray is mounted chances are good U need to readjust ur Matchbox.
2. The Slot for the push rods cut for U in the Wings needs heavy modifications to get full throw.
3. Make sure U sand a Bevel between the 2 Aileron meeting surfaces otherwise it is not uncommon to develop cracks. See last Photo.

Rudder Tray @ Servos
I elected to setup the Rudder with 4 JR 8611 servos and a Matchbox. The stock phenolic horns were used as well as some of the Ball links.
The links are Titanium 2 inch and 4inch are the correct sizes one of the photos shows 1.5inch unit will be changed tomorrow.
The Air Wild Unihubs forced me to fabricate several Carbon Fiber parts for spacing.
The unit is time consuming to assemble and setup but you are rewarded with fast speeds and perfect centering. I was surprised by the weight of 14.7 oz. If I had to do it again I might look into the Seiko Servo provided it will center and has descent speed. At this point I personally haven't tested one.
This is a Video showing the speed of this setup.

Mocked it Up
Today I was handed my Cowl by a friend that paints spectacular U can see the results.
I finally assembled the machine unassisted and I have to tell U in any wind it would be next to impossible alone.
The size is amazing.
OK on a negative side look at the Stabs in photo 2 notice how the right side is sticking out.
The Tube is drilled wrong and cut wrong.

I feel your pain! My Yak has had a few fit problems. The cowl looks awesome but how did it fit at first? Mine was horrible to the point that I am using 4-40 button heads to hold the cowl and maintain alignment. Would your buddy paint another? Never hurts to ask...

The Yak I have has a Groove around the Nose of the Fuselage. This mates to the opposite protrusion on the Cowl it then secured by a 2 Metric Allen screws located at the bottom.
In the Photo is how it Fit un modified.
A few sources out there are telling me to Silicon the cowl for Vibration to the Fuselage.
I'll ask my Buddy if he can paint urs as well.

Hey Ian,
When I assembled mine for the first time I thought my stab tube was drilled wrong also, but all I had to do was reverse it and it was perfect. I know it seems obvious but it simply may not occur to you. If I do it backwards I get the same result you have in the pics. "Supposedly" these are all assembled at the factory and each 3.3 Yak and Super Xtra are built by a single team from start to finish so there really is no excuse if the stab is not right.

I was hoping for that as well but no luck.
The CARF Factory blundered the way it happened is obvious after U look at it for a while.
My Guess is that they test fit it then drill it in a Jig but my tube must not have been properly spaced in the Jig. Funny how it works if 1/2inch was just removed from the tube.
The Stab Tube was the correct length but the holes on either side wouldn't line up with the tube inserted all the way. If U moved the tube in 1/2 inch it worked. Problem with doing that the other half of the Stab was now Bottomed in the other Stab and was missing being flush by the missing 1/2 inch.
The solution U might have though was cut the tube. Nope if U do that the tube isn't filling the last Stab Spar properly.
The only way to fix it was to rotate it and drill new holes.
But if I do that I couldn't get to the Blind Nuts and Aeropoxy a new set in.
My solution was to just order another one and start over doing it all myself like I have done many times before.
I wish I could find a Carbon Tube for it anyone have any ideas on a source.

Now I'm thinking what can I do to that tail.....................
Besides all that the Cockpit showed up today and that promises to be a pretty cool project with the Helmet Head Pilot.

Flyjets,
If you cant find a supplier in your country for the CF wing tubes, try PA In Australia, Link Below
