Default Metal Gear Grease

I installed the metal gears in my HL a couple of weeks ago. I put some synthetic bearing/axle grease on the gears, but it appears to have all spun off. Is there a better grease to use on these gears?

Stang951:

Due to the high rpms, most greases will get spun off. If you're opening it to check, and and most of the grease is in those splatter-covers is clean, just re-apply it.

The various ones mentioned over on the ArmorHut:

- one called LUBRIPLATE, used on car window roller mechanisms (I've gotten stuff from window-roller gears on me, that stuff is ~gummy~... but good lube)

- another was a wax lube used on a mountain bike. Ask a bike shop for 'chain wax' ; only down side is the gears have to be well-cleaned ~before~ you apply it.

- the final one was something called " Labelle 106 with teflon " found in a model train shop.

I'll probably go looking for the bike wax, as there are a lot around here (town is littered with bike paths!)

White Lithium grease found at ACE Hardware works well, is fine to get within the teeth and bearings and holds better. Also safe for plastic gears and plastics as well.

The Axel grease works better at higher RPM where the viscocity of the grease breaks down a bit, the tank gearboxes do not have enough RPM to turn the Axel grease into a fine lubricant, thus throwing the bulk of it off the gears.

Thanks Heavy. I thought about Lithium grease first, but didn't have any at the time so I grabbed the sytnh stuff. I'll have to pull the assemblies, clean them and regrease.
