Bill Hempel posted on this earlier this morning before the thread got deleted. It was NOT a structural failure.
He explained he had switched flight boxes. All of his regular screws, etc were left at home. He improvised using the wrong screws and he remembers, he thinks he only used one of the retaining screws instead of two. It had nothing to do with the structural integrity of the plane. He said it slid out on the tube, then broke.

If you pause the movie right at the point of the wing coming off, you can see the wing-half rotate on the tube and the wing is literally ripped off the plane due to the sudden angle of attack. That's not the structure's fault... that wing tube never had a chance. I think any sponsor should be proud of that save! [8D]

I had the honor to be taught how to fly by billy back in the mid 80s.His skill back then, when we were teenagers was awsum!I see he really has advanced since then.He still looks the same, hasnt changed at all, still that goofy look on his face!

Here's a guy doing it in a full scale.....obviously the lesson is "never give up". I heard a test pilot say once the first thing they asked themselves when the doo hit the rotary oscillator was,...is it still flying? No?...eject....Yes.....no problem then. In all these cases......no choice but to continue flying it. The arrival is inevitable, just depends on how you choose to arrive.

I had that same video of the full size plane sent to me several times, today already; and I have to agree it looks fake; if I'm wrong tell me it at so, joe!

That is a fake. Go to the pattern forum, there's a link to an article debunking it. The video is part of a whole campain by some website that created a fake pilot.
