Hi all
I have got hold of a 78" version of the Top Gun Edge 540 second hand and would like to get hold of a build manual, can someone point me in the right direction to either download one or give me a scan of same. None of the sites I have visited have a facility to download.

Minicraft made the 78" Hangar 9 Edge 540, among several other H9 ARF's.
It's pretty much the same plane, should have the same manual.
Call horizon, or ask around the forums and see if someone can send you one.
Or call minicraft - their website is www.minicrafthobby.com Makesure you click on the english option.

Unfortunatly its not the same plane the Hanger 9 Edge is 80" and has a different structure internally, but thanks for the suggestion, I have e-mailed minicraft on serveral occasions to no avail unfortunatly, I am sure someone on here must have one though.

The previous owner of this Edge had already modified the rear end to take two elevator servo's sensibly in my opinion, I am going one stage further as I am going to use a Petrol engine and install the rudder servo in the rear as well, this should be interesting as I am going to still stay with a pull pull system watch this space.

Pics show the Rudder servo in its new position at the tail end still using a pull pull, quite pleased with how this has turned out should offset some of the weight issues I am expecting with the Petrol motor up front. Will post more pics as I continue the build.

Now have the rudder servo installed and working, I have moved the elevator servos to give a better geometary to the servo and horn relationship, the previous owner had used a Y lead to connect the elevator servo's and had a very strange geometary when the servo's where installed in the old position, Just Engines phoned this morning to tell me that my MVVS 45 Magnezium had arrived and I should get it tommorow, will post pic when I install same.
EDIT: the nylon horns will be scrapped, I am waiting for the Du-Bro heavy duties to arrive from the US.

No one seems to be interested in this rear internal servo mounting so unless I hear to the contrary I will not post any more details of this build.

At least when I talk to myself I get a sensible answer.
Unfortuanatly this one has a one piece wing which gives hanger problems, nearly finnished I am changing all the hardware to Du-Bro Heavy Duty horns and rudder pull pull just for piece of mind, looking at how much of the trim and main covering have liffted during my brief ownership I can't think that this flew a great deal after its build and review in Model World. Anyone on here know the orriginal owner or reviewer.

Well its ready, all the control horns etc changed to Du-Bro heavy duty, how anyone would consider flying this using standard control horns I don't know, one advantage of moving the rudder servo was by taking off the underside of the fus I could see that the glue had not taken on both sides of the tailplane at the LE so I was able to epoxy into the gap left, bit more piece of mind, its funny how paranoid you can get if you have not built the plane yourself, mind you the funny geometary on some of the control horns had me a little concerned anyway. Will report after I fly the thing.
EDIT: just noticed if you look at the middle pic you can see the epoxy and microballoons just peaking through at the LE shows how little attachement there was at the front of the tailplane.

Looks really good! I'm getting ready to build the same plane...been sitting in my shop for a couple of months now, figure it's about time. For servo's, I plan on Hitec 5645's...with a Moki 2.10 in the nose. I'm hoping I can keep it light...I'm flying a Dave Patrick Extra right now with the same motor, and it fly's Super! The Extra is the reason this one isn't built yet...flying it so much, no time to work on anything new.

Please do make sure the tail is substantially attached to the fus, as standard it is only a glue joint that it relies on to take all the aerodynamic loads.
Dennis
Thats odd as the H9 Extra has a two piece wing, I know I prefer to have a two piece if only for ease of storage but especially for transportation.

Mike,
Nice looking plane. What is the wieght of the Edge 540 all said and done with your 45cc motor? How did you settle upon the MVVS 45 ? I am in the market for a gasser in this size range, and am interested in your impressions of it. That pull/pull rudder set up looks very efficient. Does it affect the structural integrity of the tail section at all?

Nice to hear from you, as to the weight it comes out at 6Kg which is quite light for a gas engine as you call them, I decided on the MVVS purly because I can get them easily from Just Engines who have an enviable rep over here and that the 45 has a Magnezium crankcase so is only 2.5Lb, the rear rudder sevo installation has if anything strengthend the rear end due to the extra ply reinforcement to the tail section to attach the servo, it also enabled me to force epoxy into the tailplane to fus joint which was dubious to say the least as its only an epoxy joint no structural members passing over the top of the tail, I only bought this because it was second hand and cheap and its just a vehicle to run in the 45 (its going in the QQ Yak), if I had to buy new I would have gone for the Hanger 9 Extra which has had rave reviews is a two piece wing and obviously Hanger 9 quality which I have found to be excelent in the past. Thinking further I would also recommend the QQ series of Yak's they do a 73" version as well, have a look at them they are very good quality.
Please do come back if you require any further assistance only to please to give out any information from my not very vast experience, but at least its not hearsay.

Mike,
Yes sir, no hearsay for us! I have heard a lot of good things about Quique Somenzini Yaks. There is a 77" available now, but the 85" which would do best with a 50cc motor is sold out. He is working on a 86" version that is suppose to have some improvements, so I will wait for that one to come if I go the Yak route. So far I am seriously considering three makes of motor: Brillelli, DA, and Evolution. The Brillelli is a conversion engine made here in Minnesota. It is quite inexpensive, and guys are raving about them. I am thinking of giving one of those a go for my first gasser.
I am going to do a little research on the QQ Yak and see what it is all about.
