Hey Guys..a question..I've seen 2 people ask about using a SuperTigre G-2300(Sounded like a plan to Me.)and not even 1 answer. Is the ST 2300 that bad???
I see from the specs it is about the same weight as an OS 120AX.My friend recommends ST for nearly everthing and thinks the 2300 (1.40 cubic inch) engine would be the bomb in a 10 lb plane.... and at half the price.. Any Thoughts??? Thanks, and Best Regards.,.. TJ

I though the G2300 was about 9 oz heavier than an 120ax. Maybe wrong. and you can use the stock muffler with the os.

9 ounces is still lighter than the gassers...who knows? It might work out okay for him.

I have a 16-6 apc and a saito 125 .I like the combo. I started out with a Top Flight 15-8. I may still experiment with a few more props.
How are you guys lining up your elevator halfs? If not careful one side will travel farther than the other causing problems.
I take two pieces of light tubing like the inside of a Golden Rod and tape them to each elevator half. Position them so that when the elevator is centered they almost touch. Then it is real easy to see if the elevators match.

lrglnman and propnut1 , the O.S. 120AX weighs 22.82 oz alone. The Muffler w/90* adaptor weighs 7 oz and the muffler w/extension weighs 7.9 oz. That is close to 31 oz either direction. The price is $264.99 w/ muffler and has 3.1 hp@9k.
The ST2300 is 1.40 cubic inch weighs 38 oz (My BAD..I thought it was 31 oz!!),has 1/2 hp more and is half price. Just seemed like a good deal. At 38oz ,it would be lighter than a gasser and cheap enough (unless it is a POS) for me to afford. Just seemed like a good idea.
I know sometime back that the ST2300 were known for having real bad carb problems..Just wonder if they were ever fixed.
I have a 125 Saito (NIB) and a slightly used YS 110 and I hear they are not really enough to do Down on the Deck stuff with this bird. Am looking for a fairly light 3D style plane, but would love to be able to have the Seagull Ulti. Thanks, TJ

Monkey if the st 2300 weight 38 oz Its 5 more than the os 120 with tons more power. Should rocket to the moon I know the saito 125 works good. for me that is plenty of power. Jnorton , that is the method I used but I used carbo fiber rods. Works great.

lrglnman ,yeah,I think it would be a blast!! I have read that a Saito 125 is ok but a bit lacking. Seems that the way we overpower them now days has us spoiled..lol.. I know I am. I fly foamies with 2:1 power to weight ratio and now even My Modeltech Sukhoi SU-31 with a Saito .82 seems weak!!!!!!!!. Talk about SPOILED!!!!!
Anyway , a bud of mine is looking into an ASM Ultimate Bipe. If He gets it I will be forced into getting the Seagull Bipe... (Yep..I'm just a big spoiled kid!!) That was the reason for looking at the ST2300. I had sworn off 2 strokes...(silly Me!!!) Not that anything was wrong with them, I just liked the low RPM Torque, and the sound is just incredible, especially low and slow. But like I said, The ST2300 looks like a good deal for the Seagull Ulti.. We shall see.. Best Regards, TJ

I had an St 2300 a few yrs back on a H9 Cap 232. I was running an apc 18x6 or 8(can"t remember) around 8600 rpms. I did had a problem keeping it running, ended up puting an onboard glow driver in it and that help.
I have though about the ST but didn't know if the carb problems where fixed.

propnut1, I've read that the original engines were Italian and have since been taken over by the Chinese. Supposedly the carbs are better, I don't really know. But one known fix was an OS 70D carb. I just hate the idea of buying a $150 engine and then buying a $79 carb.Seems that for a few bucks more You can get a quality engine that You'd be proud to own... I am still doing some research, as I like the idea of a 38 oz 1.40 glow engine on a 10 plane.... yeeeehaaaa!!!!!! Best Regards, TJ

I know what you mean about putting the OS carb on the ST. I really like the way mine flys with the 120, but would always like more power. I know some of the other that I fly with that are using an 120 with a moose cann are running a 18x6 xoar, but don't know what rpms they are turning.

monkeygutz69, The ST 2300 sounds like it should be fine for this application. 5 ounces is NOTHING on a ship this size. Also, carbs can be found at every swap meet, and I found out many, many years ago that it doesn't have to be the same brand. If that O-ring seals it, it will work (if it is a working carb). Take it with you and hold it up against a bunch of them. You might even be able to graft something off one of your others. But try it out first, this one might be all set. The only reason I don't like ST's is that they use funky fuel ratios that work in nothing else. Certainly no reason not to try one if the application looks promising, and from what you've explained here, it really does look pretty good to me. Hey, you can always sell it off for a downpayment on something you think you'll like better.

Go for it!

Jim

11 ounces more...that's a lot, but still doable, I'd say. Hope it works out okay....

Do you have any lead in the tail right now? (I can dream, can't I?)

Hi,The seller did not answer me. []
I am from Argentina. The place is "Laguna de los padres" near to Mar del Plata city, really is beautiful.
My setup is :
servos futaba: 4 S3152
2 S3004
Radio futaba 7C 2,4
Engine O.S 91fx

The setup is really good, maybe for 3D is better the 120 ax.
The ultimate is my second airplane, I started with the activity three months ago with a trainer (Thunder tiger)

Boy you sure made a big leap. I waited till I wore out several planes before I attempted the Ultimate. You are a brave one. Are you running your setup on 6 volts? I am and it works great.
