Racers,
Its official.. Super Vee 27s have started to ship.. We wish you all good water.
I would like to be the first to offer some tuning tips regarding your new boat. Please feel free to ad as much information as you might gain in your QUEST FOR SPEED.
Here is my Grimracer setup.
Aquacraft SuperVee 27
Entire bottom scuffed with red scratch pad (Menards, Lowes, etc)
One thin cote of Pacer Z-Poxy Finishing Resin on all wood parts (#PT-40)
SS trim plate’s .5deg positive to the bottom of the hull
Strut set at 0deg
Rudder blade tucked full under (stock shear bolt)
DTX 3800s (two 6 cell packs)
Added turn fin to the port side (AQUB7882)
Octura X-440/3 prop (bag)
Top speed… 38MPH (note: the wind blows almost all the time here, typically our water is loose)
That’s it.. does not sound like much and to tell you the truth its not.. The SuperVee is very complete and it takes very little effort to get it really singing, Enjoy.
Please feel free to post your tuning tips here. Like you I never feel like I get enough tuning in..

Yo bro, might have to venture into electrics for myself eh? I was thinking of an FE Tunnel, but this sounds like a fun little boat. I heard you talking about it at the Mendota race, might just have to look into this! Rodney Pierce

Grim, why 6 cell pack instead of 7cell packs? Wouldn't that increase the speed by around 5 mph? I plan on running two 7 cell packs. No problem right..

You can probably find the red Scotch-brite pads at a grocery store also usually with a sponge attached. I've found both the red and green pads there.
You're not modding the props? I can see where the stock 440/3 would work as most people don't really know about doing mods on them, it's kind of scary for a lot of people.
Have you tried the M-440?
Also on the turn fin, I'm wondering about it having 2 right fins instead of one beveled for the left side.
I'm kind of playing Devil's Advocate here as I'm sure that these questions would have come up sooner or later.

I want to go as fast as i can using 12 cells.. to me that is the challenge. This boat also falls into the IMPBA and NAMBA P racing classes so i want to tune to that as well. Sure it goes faster on 14 cells.. thats a given.. i dont want a given.
Ron,
The info I posted is test info after hours of testing for the average user. Trust me we will be squeezing MUCH more out of this beast. FYI. I have not tested the M prop.

Grim Racer I love you man!!!!!!
Yeah, I JUST got a new/used 7.5 tunnel and OB, and now my super vee is coming!!! I can't wait. I think I might go on RC boat overload if I get anything else new

Can I ask the purpose of scuffing the underneith of the hull?
I may get one imported from the States, depending on how much one will cost from the LHS.
Mark.

aha... I....love... aha... you too man............ dude.. your scaring me...
boat overload is not a bad thing... just ask my shrink..
scuffing the bottom of the hull just removes the surface tension.

Thanks Grim. I am awaiting more info... and my boat of course. I hope it gets here before my Titan does. Probably wan't happen that way, but who knows I might get the SuperVee Tuesday.... oh at the wishes

I have same question as hpiguy has. Also, how exactly does removing the surface tension help it go through the water better? Would it help my other boats if I did that, such as my TC31?

I'll take a shot at answering this but please correct me if I'm wrong or close.
Roughing up the bottom with Scotch-brite or sandpaper helps to remove stiction (it's a real word if you haven't heard it, a combo of sticking and friction) and helps to create a tiny cushion of air bubbles under the hull. The sailboaters figured this out years ago trying to get more speed out of them. Waxing a hull adds to the problem, the opposite of what you'd think that it would as substances like carnauba will roll up into tiny balls from the friction of the water.
This will work on any boat, not just the Aquacrafts.
Some will go to other ways of doing basically the same thing such as mixing a graphite powder in with some epoxy and applying it to the hull's bottom then sanding it lengthwise with 400 grit sandpaper.
I've got someone doing some testing for me on another product, I'm waiting to see what his results are.
Mike, if you're interested in trying it, I'll send you some. It's a Teflon tape that I get the roll ends from at work.

Ron, What is the brand and model # of this tape? I work at an indusrtial supply house and we sell a bunch of stuff that we RCers use. I also might have this tape to try. I have saved LOTS of $$ by not having to buy hardly anything for my New RC hobby. The only thing I have actually bought is battery cells and Deans conector, hull, motor, ESC and that kind of stuff. Isn't it great to work at a place that sells the stuff we need..
#16
Oh, we don't have that. We have about 8 different Teflon tapes but not that. What kind of place do you work at, if you don't mind me asking. Just to get an idea if my stuff would be anything like the stuff you are using..

Bag Octura X-640.. great speed but not quite (and just a tad on the quite) as good in the corners..
O yea.. Ron gets the dunce hat removed from his mellon today.. he is "i might add im pround to say" 100% correct on the reason to scuff the bottom.. good one Ron.

I hit it once in a while, just lucky I guess.
I work for a paper company and we use it on the machines that apply a poly extrusion to keep the poly from sticking to rollers. The stuff takes heat well plus water and solvents roll right off it. The rolls are about 2" wide. It doesn't stretch well which might make it hard to go around some places but is very thin.

Ron, do you think a Teflon coating would work? Applied by areosol or in a powder form mixed with an exopy like the graphte? Would the Telfon have the same effect as waxing?

I just want to clarify. Whey scuffing up the bottom of the boat with the scotch brite, which way should you rub, straight from front to back? circles? side to side? what? I think its straight from front to back but I wanted to make sure. And you are saying to use only the "Red" scotch brite, right? or what grit sand paper?
Thanks
Thanks

I just checked the Tower Hobbies site, and they say "In Stock" for all frequencies. They also say mine has been shipped as of today.
Can't wait.
