The Giles is a great flying bird and is a fantastic arf, I expect the R&R to be the same.

I go to order it, $75 Shipping??? Am I missing something or am I paying the freight over the water?

If you still get this bird, what engine are you planning to put in it?? OS160???

Lost a Fusion and a Showtime to a OS 160. My 160 is a rustly looking thing with a prop on it sitting in my trailer. If you see me sometime and the trailer is there, ask about the 160 and I'll give it away.

I want to do a big electric, may have to research making it E powered. If not, Satio 180. Either way, I will need all new gear for this one.

Ok, I am impressed. In the video it looks like it has really, really lite wing loading for a big plane. Also great piloting skills buy the kid flying it - wish I could do half that stuff. Is there a gasser out there for this plane? Though a heavy engine might ruin the flight characteristics; the 1.60 puls it around nicely.

I believe most OS 1.60 owners are pleased with the performance, reliability and easy starting. People tend to call it a sweet engine. Can you tell us what problems you had with yours and why it was responsible for crashing two of your planes? Are newer 1.60's flawed in some way?
I'm interested in acquiring my 3rd OS 1.60 but not a rusty crashed one.[]

You won't be "missing something" when you receive it. I recently purchased one and the box is huge! I can just about fit into it. I checked the shipping cost from my location back to Ultra, just to see how much it would cost to ship.........$128.00. Now, I don't have a UPS account, so I am sure they get a discount, but I truly do not believe they are making any money on shipping, in fact, I bet they are absorbing some of the costs.

BTW - You will love this plane! Mine is Saito 1.80 powered. 10pounds, unlimited vertical, and flies great.

My own fault. I took the baffle out of the muffler to increase power, well it also reduced the backpressure, so I had to run the bottom end a bit ritcher to run and standing it up in a hover, it died, twice.

It cost me two planes to figure it out and it was my own doing. It's just dead to me.

160 is a rocking motor and have zero problem owning one, except for the one I own now

I grew up flying 3D on a 2 stroke motor so I have no problem doing it, however after flying the same plane (not this one) back to back with different motors, I like the strokers for 3D stuff better. Really want to do electric. Its that thousand dollar battery pack that hurts.

I have been flying this plane (although called the virtuoso) for several months now. Hacker A60 18M, Jeti 90, 19X12 on a 10s 5400 Electric power batteries. A very good 3D artistic plane. Mine came to just over 11 lbs. Ill get some video uploaded shortly.

Could you give us a little more detail on your setup (approx. cost motor, batts, speed controller, which servos you went with, etc.).

Batteries- $184.00 each x 2= $368.00 (two 5s 5400mah packs in series )
4- JR 8411 (2- elevator, 2- Aileron)
1- JR 8611 for the rudder (overkill)

This setup put out right under 2500 watts and right around 210 watts per pound. Right about 3.25 HP if my calculation is correct.

Some immediate changes between mine and the RR that I notice are notable improvements. My kit came with the motor box you see above. It had provisions for a few different motor choices including electric and it had to be assembled. (The electric and 160 motor box were the same). The RR already has this pre-installed.

My chin cowl and chin cowl had to be cut for the landing gear to clear, this is predone.

The chin colw is mounted to the plane via blind nuts preinstalled. I had to install wood blocks and use wood screws all around to hold mine on.

The gear provided with the RR looks to be longer (but cant verify that).

The covering though still doesnt appeal to me. Just a personal preference. I pulled mine off of the wings and tail group and plan on recovering one day.

You should try a Cline regulator. No muffler pressure needed. You can put the tank in the tail if you want and get constant fuel flow in any orientation. Spend the $60, it is cheaper than a new plane

You know Mike, I really want to try an electric bird this size.....but I just cannot envision forking over that much money for a power system (yeah I know....I'm cheap). I guess I will have to stay with my original idea....a nib ys 140fz that I paid as much (or little) as you paid for that speed controller.

Oh well, can't have everything[&o].

p.s.-I thought I recognize this bird when Chris first posted pics of it last year (or 2 years ago). I have been waiting for it since. I wonder if Chris still has something in the works....

I can certainly understand that. Electrics past the 40-60 size are still cost prohibitive and take a certain commitment, although the prices are continously coming down. I have only flown one IC powered plane in my years with this hobby and that was Chris's 50cc Yak. He handed me the sticks one day while flying with him. Although I love electric and pushing the envelope with new technologies, there is something about hearing and feeling the sheer power of a DA-50 that is intoxicating. I feel the same way about watching guys fly Glow pattern and 3D.
