I don't get it why it seems in the last week or so that it seems like everyone here has been brand bashing or saying brand a is better then brand b etc.
Realistically ya, Tamiya is supposed to be 'the best'. Still I hate seeing "oh swap that out with tamiya" etc. Its starting to get to me....
Simply, I do not care what brand it is. All I care about is what it can do, and how well it gets the job done. Price is a factor to, but thats another rant.
So guys, I want to know why this is the thinking of the RC tank world.
And no, "just cause, cause it is, because I think so" etc wont cut it. fact, not opinions.

I think your right on the price my friend, when we see a $800 tamiya or a $100 HL tiger it is almost implied that the tamiya is a better tank and should be for the prices that are asked for them but me personally could never spend that on a "toy" or "model" would I like to have one, darn tooting I would but I dont think I would have any more or any less fun then my Heng Long tanks. just my 2 cents though [8D]

i agree on what it does and how well it does it...ie...smoke....sound...shoot bbs from a real working cannon and cool stuff like that, hen long is a god and i think he should be immortalized for breaking the expensive tank barrier down!
i wish i could tell these people i love you!!...hail to hen long!...hail to hen long!...hail to hen long![8D]

some people spend more than other's for self justification of there chosen past time and others drift from one thing to another until the facination of something new wears off.there are manny reasons to spend your money on some thing you don't need.i'm sure we can all think of a few.

We're tankers . . . it's in our blood to destroy each other
Let's face it. I'd like nothing more to get 100 tankers, half Tamiya and half henlong, and have us duke it out at Danville with one exception . . . our guns fire 20calibler rounds!!![8D] I ain't tellin which side I'm on!!

Tamiya and Heng Long originally had different target audiences, they still do. Though I believe that HL/Matorro has also broadened their target audience by the attention to detail they've put into their latest tanks. Remember the HLs are not kits, charge the battery and go, the Tamiyas are a model makers dream, you have to put them together and that has a satisfaction all its own. I don't know when the first HL hit the market, I joined the hobby only recently. Since 2005 they've introduced the Pershing, Walker Bulldog, Panzer III and Sturmtiger. They also have a few more in the works including a King Tiger and I heard somewhere maybe a "Late" Tiger I.

Very well said Swathdiver, a kit is kit and RTR is Ready-To-Run (and very satisfying also). Sownare, I hear you too-really, but it would just kill me to have my little mint condition hanger queens (HL Panther, Tamiya Leopard, etc.) scraped up in some brawl. This forum is great.

I think it is human nature, its like cars, the guy next door has a Audi A3, I drive a Seat Leon, the guy next door looks down on me as his car is more expensive, I laugh back as he is the mug who paid 30 percent more for the same car underneath. Now i know its a bit different with these tank toys because the HL ones sometimes have quality probs with the boards. But on balance, its about what you want out of it, HL suits me as it serves it purpose, and I simply refuse to pay tamiya prices. The guts in the Tamiyas may be better, BUT the price difference is disproportionate so I see them as the ogre here not HL. 100 dollars more yes, probably fair, 500 dollars more? that is simply taking the pi55. It truly was a monopoly and now it is ending, as HL gain business they should invest in quality and the products will come up to scratch, so...basic economics here, if we all support them by buying an HL, we will accellerate the process and have a reliable RC tank at a fair price from both companies.

the rides over tamiya...
...you thought that you were so smart by increasing your profits by 500% (literally taking raw plastic and a metal tub and turning them into $1200 fully equipped kits) hen long shall strike down on thee with great vengence!.... [>:]

I don't see where this bantering is contributing anything to the hobby. Hen Long tanks are a quality entry level RTR and Tamiya is a kit that does much more ... period.

I think it's good and shows the market has room for both, just like martin g's comparison. Some people buy Audi's, some buy Seat's.
From my personal point of view, HL have done Tamiya a favour. I always wanted an RC tank, but could never justify the price of a Tamiya. Now I'm a lot closer to considering a Tam as I KNOW how much fun I'm having modding my HL, and I know for a fact that a Tam wouldn't be a £600 flash in the pan.
Although for now I'm quite happy with my HL Tig and am thinking towards the Pz3 next...
....the last line is in case my wife reads this!
